Homeschool Specialists' Review
Hake's Grammar and Writing presents a new grammar or writing concept every day with review exercises that allow the student to continue practicing concepts previously learned. The detailed lesson presentation encourages students to be self-guided throughout, with very little intervention by the parent/teacher. My three boys have all acquired excellent writing and grammar skills through the use of this program.
Kits include student text and workbook with 107 to 112 lessons; and teacher's packet with test masters and answer keys. Grade 4 to 8. From Saxon.
HayChick5 Stars Out Of 5Amazing curriculum, that's Saxon for you.August 7, 2011HayChickQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5Saxon did an amazing job of teaching grammar and writing in this comprehensive book. The text is written to the student, which makes it easy for them to follow without having a parent look over their shoulder every minute. I can honestly say this "eighth" grade text could easily be used to teach a 9th to 12th grade student that had not been previously taught thorough grammar skills.
John Collins5 Stars Out Of 5May 5, 2010John CollinsI like the idea that the grammer and writing are separated into two books. It gives greater detail then other material I looked at. I do wish the student text was a hardcover.
Q: Stating with the 8th grade? My son used public virtual school for language arts for 6th and 7th grades. Could he easily transition to this curriculum having never used it before? I know it teaches diagramming which he isn't familiar with, does it review?
Yes, this curriculum gives a clear explanation of each concept covered.
