Gabriel, the Duke of St. Easton, is ordered by the King to take guardianship over Lady Alexandria Featherstone whose parents are presumed dead after failing to return from a high profile treasure hunt. But Alexandria ignores this royal reassignment, believing her parents are still alive and duly following clues that may lead to their whereabouts. Gabriel, pressured by what are actually the King’s ulterior motives, pursues her across windswept England and the rolling green hills of Ireland but is always one step behind.
When they do meet, the search for earthly treasure will pale in comparison to what God has planned for both of them.
"Get lost in Ireland in this rollicking adventure with a brave, headstrong heroine and a relentless yet honorable duke determined to save her from a dangerous quest. With rich characterization and an intriguing plot, Jamie Carie's The Guardian Duke will leave you breathless for the next installment!"
-- Susan May Warren, best-selling author of Baroness
ASC Book ReviewsNMAge: 18-24Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5LOVE LOVE LOVE THIS BOOK!!!!November 14, 2014ASC Book ReviewsNMAge: 18-24Gender: femaleI had always wanted to read this series but when I found it I was just at the beginning of starting my reviewing blog and Jamie was in the middle of the series. I am SO glad I waited to start with one when two and three are out because I can hardly wait for the next one!!!!! Definitely love how Jamie wrote the cliff hanger ending, but at the same time I can't stand cliff hanger endings LOL! From the lovely Holy Island, to the enchanting and beautiful Ireland I LOVED the journey and adventures that these characters go through. I thought is has feelings of Princess Bride but even more FUN and I LOVE this more because of the Christian base throughout!!! I LOVE these characters (yes I know I'm using the word LOVE a lot LOL! but bare with me...) They are excellently crafted and in just a short time they have become some of my all time favorites! Alexandria is an awesome character that is quirky and brave. I can see where she has some growing to do and I can't wait to read all about it, following her through her adventures that shape her into the woman God wants her to be. I LOVE the way Jamie describes Gabriel!!! I can just see him as clearly as if he stood right in front of me! The struggles he goes through are a very interesting addition to the story that I wasn't expecting and as his character is revealed I love him more and more! :) Along the way more characters crop up to help or hinder the journey in one way or another and I love the majority of them especially the sub characters and their stories! With Jamie's humor woven into the suspense and excitement I actually devoured this book and I can't wait for more!!! Where are Alex's parents? What exactly is it they're searching for? And will Alex find them in time or will it be too late!? Questions that I can't wait to get the answers to! I highly recommend The Guardian Duke but be prepared to get hooked!

JCMorrowsAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Strong female lead - YES! And a great adventure!June 19, 2014JCMorrowsAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I had forgotten just how much I LOVED historical romances until I picked up The Guardian Duke and started reading.
And all I can say is WOW!
What an amazing story - filled with unpredictable and wonderfully frustrating characters!
We get to follow along as our delightful Lady Alexandria embarks on a dangerous mission that many call foolish and the Duke of Easton is forced to follow.
It is exceptionally refreshing to read a wonderful story full of misadventure and chaos with none of the typical nonsense you read in mainstream historical fiction.
Instead of lusty encounters, adventure and faith take center stage and the result is much more satisfying and highly entertaining.
This novel does not need any such nonsense to hold the readers attention. The exceptionally written plot carries them along just fine.
In fact, before you know it, you've come to the end and you find yourself desperate to rush to the next book.
Fortunately_ all three books are out now so you can read them in sequence. Which is where I am bound right now - book 2: The Forgiven Duke.
THANK YOU to B&H Publishing for providing this book free to me in exchange for my honest review!
StoryGirlAge: 18-24Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5The Guardian DukeFebruary 9, 2013StoryGirlAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I've never before read anything by Jamie Carie, although I am familiar with her name and books due to my frequency here on Christianbook.com. I saw that this one got high ratings (plus I like the cover), so when I saw it was available on Netgalley, I decided to try it.
I think the strength of this book is that it wasn't "typical." There were a lot of little quirks and things that kept the story fresh and original. All the same, there were a few things that just didn't "work" for me. First of all, though I really enjoyed all of the letters between Alexandra and Gabriel, I didn't get why she kept trying to elude him. He was on her side, after all!
My favorite character was definitely Montague, although I liked Baylor also. Though the storyline is definitely unusual, if you know coming into this book that it's more of an adventure story that a formal Regency, you'll probably enjoy it.
I'm happy to say, the book didn't really have any objectionable content that I can remember. (However, I had read reviews of the second and third books, and so apparently there is some objectionable stuff in there, which is sad because this book ends on a cliffhanger_so you're probably going to want to read the next books.)
I received this book for free in exchange for my honest review.
gjo50TexasAge: 55-65Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5Great start to a trilogySeptember 23, 2012gjo50TexasAge: 55-65Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4After the King ordered Gabriel, the Duke of St. Easton to be the guardian for Lady Alexandria Featherstone whose parents are missing. Alexandria, who practically raised herself, does not feel the need for a guardian at this point. Alexandria wants to find and save her parents, and she assumes that the Duke is a stuffy old man who will put a stop to her desires. Immediately, Alexandria begins her plans to find her parents while keeping away from Gabriel and walking right into danger.
The Guardian Duke starts this series off on the right foot. Carie weaves an interesting romantic mystery as the main characters deal with personal problems and attempt to strengthen their relationships with the Lord. Carie describes the scenery beautifully, building visual pictures of the travels. This is a great read for historical romantic mystery readers of all ages.
