Product Description

Julie Ziglar Norman often says her dad is the king of "doing life right" and she is the poster child for "doing life wrong." In Growing Up Ziglar: A Daughter's Broken Journey from Heartache to Hope, Julie shares how for 25 years she lived every day with regret, shame, guilt, and depression while trying to keep up the positive outer appearance that was expected of her as the daughter of popular motivational author and speaker Zig Ziglar.

Within the pages of Growing Up Ziglar, Norman reveals her struggles with depression, alcohol, and men. She candidly tells of her failed first marriage, unplanned pregnancies and difficult choices, and the challenges involved with her remarriage and blending families. With transparency and insight, she describes her soul-searching path from heartache to redemption, allowing readers to discover the power to let go of shame and embrace freedom, as well as the courage to live with a new depth of faith. Ultimately Norman offers the hope that God can beautifully redeem even the worst choices and equips her audience with the tools to make needed changes.

Author Info

Julie Ziglar Norman is the youngest daughter of world renowned motivational and inspirational author and speaker Zig Ziglar and his beloved wife Jean "the Redhead" Ziglar. Growing up in a house where negative feelings were expressed with positive words, as a teen she declared that she would one day write a book titled I'm Positive I'm Miserable.
After 25 years of living every day with regret, shame, guilt and depression but trying to cover it with a smile, Julie began her journey letting go of the shame and embracing freedom in Christ. She is living proof of the hope that God can beautifully redeem even your worst choices.
Having spent 20 years as her father's personal editor and with a background in sales and business management, Julie has become a dynamic international motivational speaker herself. The founder of the Ziglar Women Faith and Family Conference, she is continuing the legacy of encouragement begun by her father over 40 years ago. Her personal, transparent speaking style has endeared her to audiences all across America.
Julie has shared the platform with many well-respected leaders such as General Colin Powell, Rudy Giuliani, President George W. Bush, Laura Bush, Lou Holtz, Steve Forbes, Sarah Palin, Bill Cosby, Joe Montana, Dr. Robert Schuller, and a host of others.
Julie lives in Alvord, Texas, with her husband of twenty-eight years, Jim Norman; three horses, four rescued dogs and three rescued cats. The Normans are the parents of a blended family of four children and now have 12 grandchildren.

In Growing Up Ziglar, Julie Ziglar Norman shares her testimony of how God brought her to where she is today as a woman, free in Christ. Coming from a family with motivational speaker Zig Ziglar as your father, one would think it easy to make good decisions, but Norman shares how even in a positive home, poor choices can be made. Starting with the present and flipping back and forth between moments of her life, she shares her shadowed past with the hope that Christian women will benefit from her experiences.

Beginning with the build up of poor choices in junior high and ending with struggles with her husband, Norman shares how God was there through it all and the steps the Lord used to mold her into the person she is today. She gives examples throughout the book of childhood and family memories, her parents' support and influence, and experiences with God through situations and people she came in contact with.

Norman tells how even though she eventually turned her life around and began living like a true Christian, God couldn’t fully use her until she became transparent with others about her past. Norman wants her readers to understand they don’t have to hide in fear under the blanket of guilt and shame. Instead, she wants to teach readers how to be the right kind of person and live a life free in Jesus. She says, "This book is about shredding that veil of false pretense and learning how to live comfortably in your own skin because Jesus loves you right where you are" (p. 160). She includes a challenge list in back of the book to help the reader who strives to live out his or her life for Christ but needs guidance.

While the book may appear to be structured haphazardly, its randomness will hold readers' attention, and as it flows to the end, all will make sense. This book's framework exemplifies life in the way that very often everything fits together when one steps back and looks at the bigger picture. I recommend this book for any woman who feels her past sins are too great to be free of guilt and who needs reassurance that Christ's grace covers all. - Kristi Schweitzer,
