Green is another of Ted Deckker's great books. It is all that was promised and puts you right back in the Circle with all the suspense and mystery. Every one of his books that I have read has kept me spellbound from beginning to end.

Circle series is excellent! Hopefully this book will answer the questions we've had from reading the rest of the series; we didn't even know there was going to be a GREEN. "WE" being my son and me. Bought as Christmas present for my son. I'm dying to read GREEN, but have to wait so he can read first ... another month to Christmas! When he puts it down, I grab it. We've had a lot of discussions while reading the series. An exciting read on one level; a tremendous allegory of Jesus' extreme love and forgiveness on another level. The first level alone would be worth the reading. Dekker's books jump right into action and hook the reader immediately. If you haven't read any of this series yet, buy the whole set and start at BLACK. The mystery of how Thomas got to the Black Forest only adds to the intrigue and mystery of the series. (At least that's my opinion not having actually read GREEN yet. It's left us thirsty for more of the story.) Buy the series because you'll want to read them twice and still won't want to stop!

Green (Book 0) is the first or the last book of the 4-book “Circle” series. According to Dekker, the reader can “start with Black, then read Red, White and end with Green. Or start with Green and move on to Black, Red and White.” When I started reading the series, Green wasn’t published yet so I had no choice but to start with Black and end with Green.
Theologically, the book is splotchy. I like Dekker’s allegory of salvation. Jesus is pursuing the lost and He wants them to love Him, but at the same time I don’t like that “The Great Romance” can somewhat allude to having lovey-dovey feelings for Jesus, which is unbiblical, weird, and distasteful. At the same time, Samuel Hunter is a good example of how salvation and a relationship with Christ needs to be personal.
In terms of family friendliness, I say “no”. The book describes rituals, fight, and battle scenes in vivid, and most of the time, gory detail. The character, Billy, uses some sex-tinged dialogue, such as calling a woman a whore, and compares traveling between two realities to sex. That’s basically what is said, but it’s unnecessary.
The Circle series is a creative, thrilling, dramatic, and well-written series. However, I liked The Circle Trilogy better than the series. I’m glad I read Green last. I feel as if I read it first, Green would’ve given too much away. The series is truly circular, which is both a good and bad thing. Creating a “Book Zero” is ingenious and it links Books 1 and 3 well, but it leaves the reader (at least, me) hanging. I feel as if I have so many unanswered questions. I might have to read Black again. But maybe that was the point.

What can I say, I love Ted Dekker! I really feel like he out did himself with Green and took things again to where my mind doesn't want to always go. He truely makes you think and gives new meaning to the Romance that God has with us through Christ Jesus. Made me want to read the other 3 all over again!

At Last . . . The Circle Reborn

The whole time I was reading this book I was on the edge of my seat. I couldn't wait to find out what came next. As I had previously read Black, Red and White, I already was familar with the characters and the story line. Although, I think this is a book that you can start the series with and continue with Black, then Red, and then White, especially if you have never read any of the other three books. This is a great book if you love suspense, mystery, romance, suprising twists, and a very insightful spiritual comparisons. This is one book that I would recommend to anyone that I knew liked supsense and mystery. Rather I would just suggest this book to anyone who liked to read. Ted Dekker does a great job of getting you into the story, so much so that you don't want to put the book done. Another great book by Ted Dekker! And an AMAZING finish to the Circle Series!!!

I am new to the Ted Dekker Circle Series, and Green was my introduction. I’m sad to say that this isn’t a book I was able to finish. It was filled with graphic occultic practices, a lot of blood, gore and pure horror. I also believe the phrase “Christian Horror Fiction” to be an oxymoron. Nothing was left to the imagination, and it lacked a great deal of tact. There are so many wonderful works of fiction using allegory, but I do not feel that this was one of them.
I found Green to be a very confusing book. After watching the trailor for this book, I was even more confused as it seemed that this book just popped into the middle of a story I had no previous knowledge about. I found it very difficult to wade through and decipher. As I said before, I was unable to finish this book. It crosses a line that I’m just not comfortable with. I also experienced nightmares every night that I read this book. I would not recommend this book to anyone. I am familiar with some of Dekker’s other novels, and I find them just as distasteful. I only chose to review this one because I had heard such great things about it from other people. With the exception of two novels, I’ve always finished what I’ve started reading. This is not one of them.

I gave Green a try because I really liked Black. (I didn't like the other two as much.) I have just decided not to even finish Green. Let me just say that I read a lot and it is extremely rare for me to not finish a book. I was just so uncomfortable with all the blood and gore. This book had so much focus on the evil part; it read like a horror novel. I personally don't think that the horror genre has any place in Christ-centered fiction. I realize that it is fantasy and allegory, but I think the message is lost in the process. I read fantasy and enjoy it, but I feel this novel crosses the line for a Christian author.

Although I like Dekker’s work, I don’t always have the opportunity to read his books. In fact, this is the first I’ve read in his Circle series.
As usual Dekker brilliantly weaves multiple story lines, tying up the loose ends of the series. In the introduction he tells the reader s/he can read Green first, or last, and it will still make sense. I had no trouble following the story line. In fact I have read he includes characters from other series to produce a fascinating story.
I like the way Dekker includes the tenets of the Christian faith. Readers will find scenes that reveal God’s amazing love for His people, beautiful and hope-filled. There is also the story of fallen mankind and the conflict of the ages between God and the enemy, with accompanying spiritual battles. And graphic scenes. I’ve never gagged as I read a book before, but I did it with Green.
Cover Copy Excerpts: “As foretold by ancient prophets, an apocalypse destroyed Earth during the twenty-first century. But two thousand years later Elyon set upon the earth a new Adam. This time, however, He gave humanity an advantage…. But the evil Teelah bided his time in the Black Forest.… When least expected, Thomas Hunter fell asleep in our world and woke up in that future Black Forest. A gateway was opened for Teeleh to ravage the land.… Hunter and his Circle swore to fight the dark scourge until their dying breath…. now the Circle has lost hope…. Hunter’s cherished son, Samuel, has turned his back on his father. He gathers the dark forces to wage a final war….
“Enter an apocalyptic story like none you have read. A story with links to our own history, so shocking that you will forget you are in another world…. Welcome to GREEN. Book Zero.”
I can see teenagers and suspense-lovers gobbling up Green, and I can see a movie. Give Mr. Dekker five stars!
