Suddenly they find themselves awhirl in a series of crimes—stolen right off the pages of Muzz Elliott’s own mystery novels. The twins need to figure out who’s behind this twisted plot soon, or Muzz Elliott will be framed for her own greatest literary invention . . . the theft of the Great Mogul Diamond. Sadie, Saskia, and Erik face this question head-on in the third installment of The Dopple Ganger Chronicles, by New York Times bestselling author G. P. Taylor.

G.P. Taylor's third book of The Dopple Ganger Chronicles, titled The Great Mogul Diamond, is a thrilling story combining the intrigue of a mystery novel and the action of a graphic novel. A mystery ensues when Sadie and Saskia Dopple overhear their personal guardian, the famous writer Muzz Elliot, on the phone with a blackmailer. It’s up to the identical twins and their friend Erik Ganger to figure out who the blackmailer is and what his sinister plan is before it's too late.

Every page has something visual to go along with the story. The artists do a great job illustrating the struggles of Sadie, Saskia, and Erik. By switching to illustrated panels, the action of the story becomes more exciting. For example, Erik and Dorcas Potts, a private investigator, become involved in a high speed car chase through the Alps. The intensity of that scene is better when it's seen than read. Unfortunately, switching between comic book and mystery novel can be confusing at times, with some details getting lost during transition.

Shortly after the mysterious phone call, Muzz Elliot takes the identical twins on a vacation to Cannes, France. But as soon as they board the train, strange crimes begin to occur that mimic scenes from one of Muzz Elliot's books. Their friends Dorcas Potts and Erik Ganger chase after them, but a gang of thieves don't want Dorcas and Erik to reach Cannes in time to help Muzz Elliot and the twins.

Sadie and Saskia attended the same school as Erik, which is how they know each other. They have a tendency to get themselves into trouble, usually a result of their own snooping. Erik Ganger is a former thief who has sworn to never steal again, but the Great Mogul Diamond presents a temptation to him. Dorcas Potts is not afraid of danger, especially if it involves helping her friends. She has a courageous heart but sometimes she takes too many risks.

The Great Mogul Diamond is a good mystery and adventure story. It is quick and easy to read and it thrills until the end. Kids in grades 5 and up will definitely enjoy it, even if they struggle with reading. I don't think G.P. Taylor's done with this series yet, so we can expect to see the sleuthing twins again in the future. – Jared Hammond, www.ChristianBookPreviews.com

This is book 3 in the series aimed for 8-12 year olds, and follows the adventures of twin sisters Sadie and Saskia and their friend Erik as they solve mysteries. It was a bit confusing jumping in at book 3, but eventually I think I figured out most of the backstory.

This book was like a work of art, a hard-back book (which seems rare in juvenile fiction) printed on high quality paper. It alternated between pages with just narrative, large illustrations and some black and white photos, and colored graphic novel pages. I would imagine this would keep the target audience well-engaged as the story progresses. I think the story would be quite exciting for this age group. My complaint is the portrayals of Madame Raphael and the Man of Good-Bye Friday. These were awkward representations of an angel and Jesus, but were presented so strangely they more seemed like New Age spirit-guide-type characters. Im not sure they were clear and positive representations of Christ, and stretched believability as they appeared in visible form to the children. They had little to do with anything happening in the plot and it would have been better to have a mystery devoid of these characters. Even though I would prefer a book with a Christian tone, gratuitous Christianity doesnt endear me to this novel. I would not purchase this for any of the children in my life.

The third book in the Doppleganger Chronicles is probably the best. This time the twins are traveling to France and have officially moved in with Muzz Elliot, a bestselling writer. Erik is learning to be a detective, thanks to American Dorcas Potts. He still lives at the orphanage, though.

    The setting is Britain.

There's a murder on the train the twins are traveling on, and there's a mysterious man following the twins and Muzz, who goes to France on what the twins suspect is blackmail.

And the Great Mogul Diamond disappears. And they also want to find their mother.

This series is mysterious and interesting, following abandoned twins who get adopted (but who always long for their mother) and then have adventures relating to their adopted parents. Although this takes place in modern times, the feel of the book makes it seem in the past. And the fact it's a graphic novel series (and did not originate as a longer series) makes it even more original and creative.

I really enjoyed reading this book.

    It deserves a 10.

The Great Mogul Diamond is the third book in The Doppleganger Chronicles by G.P. Taylor. It is also the last one although I suppose he may still write more. The Dopple twins and Erik are enjoying their new lives away from the Home for Wayward Children but, of course, adventure strikes again. Muzz Elliot (the twins new mother) is being blackmailed. Not one to back down she goes to try to figure out what is going on thinking it may be her twin sister who is really in trouble. Of course Dorcas Potts and Erik end up tracking down the twins and Muzz Elliot and the adventure continues. The are car chases, explosions, boat chases, near death accidents, everything you have come to expect from G.P. Taylor. Also, the Companion shows up in this book.

Each of The Doppleganger books just gets better and better. I highly recommend this book for your tween or teen.

    Great addition to the series!

The Great Mogul Diamond was another great book in this series. I found myself dreading the end because I knew that meant I was done with the series _ at least until the next book comes out. The spiritual themes really come into play more fully in this book, and it was neat to see the characters wrestling with their decisions and thinking of how their decisions impacted others. I appreciate growth and maturity in characters throughout books/series, so this was nice to see—especially as this book is geared toward a juvenile / middle grade audience.

As with the rest of the series, the action is fast-paced and the story moves along pretty quickly. I loved the animation/cartoon sketches in this book _ possibly more than in the others. Maybe I've just gotten used to how they're intermingled throughout?

This is a great series for resistant readers. The books are action-packed so the plot moves along pretty quickly, which is key for hooking those non-readers! Parts of the stories are a bit "dark and twisty" but I think that upper elementary and middle school students will thoroughly enjoy them. Good grief, I'm way past that age and I LOVED them!

I'm truly looking forward to more books by this author and highly recommend this series! (4 stars)

The Great Mogul Diamond is the third book in the Dopple Ganger Series. In this adventure, Muzz Elliot has been blackmailed and she, Sadie, and Saskia travel to France to clear her name. However, they face trouble and danger on the way. First, a woman is drugged and thrown into a closet wearing Muzz Elliot's coat and hat. Then, their stewart disappears and lastly, the three are drugged and Sadie is kidnapped. Meanwhile, Dorcas and Erik travel by car to France to help Muzz Elliot and the twins, however, they too face danger that slows them down. While on the road, a man tries to blow their car up, but they are able to escape. Unfortunately, they are found and kidnapped. After they are kidnapped, they find help in surprising places and are able to escape their way into France where they reach Muzz Elliot and Saskia. After Dorcas and Erik arrive in France, the second part of the blackmail plot is unveiled. Sadie's kidnappers have demanded that they steal the Great Mogul Diamond that is to be auctioned off or Sadie dies. In an attempt to rescue Sadie without stealing the diamond, Dorcas is caught, but not before Erik has discovered of Dorcas's abduction. Now, it is up to Erik, Muzz Elliot, and Saskia to pull the heist of a lifetime, discover who is behind this elaborate blackmail scheme, and free Sadie and Dorcas before they are killed. Like G.P. Taylor's first two book of this series, this is a good book of mystery and suspense geared to youth readers.
