Great Civil War Debate
This was a very thrilling exchange of ideas. Both debaters (Peter Marshall and Steve Wilkins) presented their side of the argument admirably well. Both marshaled their facts, constructed their case, articulated their reasons, and marshaled their facts superbly. So, which one was right and which was wrong? The options are limited: one may be right but both can't be, although both may be wrong. This is why debates are so exciting to witness. They seem to get at the heart of the matter when both sides are well prepared, consistent in their logic, and highly knowledgeable of the facts as they understand them. The final remarks will leave you reeling. These men know the power of rhetoric and use their skills to the full in their final salvos. I am a Canadian who was taught at an early (an impressionable age) that the Confederacy was evil incarnate. Black and white. Case closed. Both men did a masterful job showing that the South was extremely complex and highly nuanced. A truly rewarding item. Whether you agree with either man and his case, you will find yourself pondering the matter with renewed vigor. Thank you Peter and Steve.
