Product Description

Loss in life is inevitable, but it's possible to harness the hardship of loss and turn it into a positive event in your life. Author Jerry Sittser explores painful events like divorce, death and illness and shows that it's not the circumstances we find ourselves in at these points of loss, but how we respond to them that widens our spiritual capacity to experience blessing and growth in the midst of grief.

Jerry Sittser's book has been a blessing to me. I am coping better with the loss of my beloved husband, since reading his book. Last night, I purchased additional of A Grace Disguised to give away to help others in their grief.

This is a wonderful book. So many families around me have experienced the loss of a family member within the last year that I was really praying for God to give me a good book to help me better understand what they are going through and how I can be more helpful and supportive. This book not only did that but also taught me so much personally about finding God's grace to live life in general since so many of the issues that he brings up are common in day to day just not as overwhelming as when someone we love dies.

After loosing my son in a car accident at 20 years old this is the best book on grieving I have read yet. It offers inspiration, hope, and guides you through the fog of grief.

This was an excellent book dealing with an important topic for people who have experienced loss. Although it is particularly helpful for those who have lost someone through death, it also has something to say to those who have experienced other types of loss. Drawing from his personal experience of loss of his wife, mother and daughter in one traffic accident, Sittler honors us by allowing us to see his wounds and the way he dealt (indeed, continues to deal) with them. He informs us that everyone experiences loss differently and that no one should be belittled because of their experience. His analogy that loss is like an amputation — "while it does not remain an open wound, it never completely heals” — is particularly striking and helpful.

This is a difficult yet beautiful read. For anyone dealing with a loss, especially a sudden, tragic loss, this book has so much to offer. The author's honesty and transparency in relating his struggles and grief was so appreciated. He reinforces our need for the God of all comfort and peace, who understands our sorrow and loves us through times of doubt and utter inability to love.

Great book! I have lost my mom and two sisters and received this book as a gift after this. I have purchased this book for a friend who lost a baby because death of a close relative really does affect the rest of your life.

I have read many books about grief, but none better than this one. Dr. Sittser experienced a loss greater than most of us can imagine. He beautifully walks us through his grief journey and his thought process that eventually gave him peace. A wonderful, exceptional book that anyone grieving will benefit from.

Within a nine month period of time, I lost my mother, my infant grandson, and my brother who was only fifty. I was reeling. Jerry Sittser's book became water to my soul; it kept me going. His honesty about the depth of his grief made me realize that I could live with my own sorrow...with grace.
