Tell us a little about yourself. I am married with two children and our family
lives in the Finger Lakes region of upstate, New
York. I have a degree in education with an
emphasis on curriculum/instruction. The subjects
I enjoy digging into and writing about are
government, political science, history and
classical literature. I have homeschooled my
children from the beginning and have a fairly
wide experience with different curricula. My
son, Ben, is now a senior and has just accepted
an appointment to the U.S. Naval Academy. My
daughter, Grace, is a sophmore. She has an
interest in business and a passion for horses.
I also have a passion for music and art. I
recorded a cd of original music in a
contemporary Christian genre called "Healing In
His Wings." I did the cover art. I paint in
watercolor and I am working on developing a line
of cards that will depict children engaged in
play and various learning situations.
What was your motivation behind this project? I wanted to give people a basic understanding of
how the U.S. federal government is set up and
how it functions. Most people forget what they
learned about it in high school and don't have
the time or inclination to refresh their memory
by pouring over thick texts. So, I poured over
the texts, extracted the essential information,
and presented the nuts and bolts of American
government in a simple, concise guide. If sales
are any indication, then "Government 101" has
turned out to be what people are looking for.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? I hope folks will gain an understanding of our
government and that this will help equip them
with the knowledge and confidence to become part
of the political process.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Gary Demar - "God and Government"; Douglas
Southall Freeman - "Lee"; Henderson - "Stonewall
Jackson"; Verna M. Hall - "The Christian History
Of The Constitution Of The United States Of
America."
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: Homeschoolers are raising tomorrow's leaders!
It is worth the time, effort, and sacrifces.
