Tell us a little about yourself. I love science and spend much of each day creating pages for my science website. Sometimes I am answering someone's question, but often I find some exciting tidbits about science and want to share it. Since I am not teaching, I share stuff with readers of my books and website. YEA! FYI: When I am working on my computer, my Maltese puppy sits on a pillow behind me. If you have a question about the book featured on this page or about science in general, you are invited to contact me directly via this email address. What was your motivation behind this project? 200 Gooey, Slippery, Slimy, Weird, and Fun Experiment was the first in a series of what I call The potpourri series. This books was created from requests from educators wanting a book that a little bit of the five basic sciencesAstronomy, Biology, Chemistry, Earth Science, and Physics. It was fun to create and over a period of time four more books were added to the series201-202-203-and 204It was this last book that makes me think of my science trip to the geographic south pole. YEP! I stood at the pole. YEP! It was very cold for this Texas gal who likes warm sunny days.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? HAVE FUN WITH SCIENCE!
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? I never write anything that I don't put my whole self into--
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? Every science writer influences me. I am always excited when new science books hit the shelf and have purchases hundreds of science books that I use to research ideas.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: I was on a publicity tour when the 200 Gooey book was published. There is an experiment in the books about making a slimy --gooey--and ever so fun stuff. I was demonstrating how to make the slime when a pre-teen boy asked where the recipe for the slime was printed. I told him in my new book, and then pointed to a stack of the books on a table. He shouted, "I want one!" and grabbed one of the books. The other kids followed his lead and there was a stampede of kids grabbing the books. Parents laughed--the bookstore owner was in a daze, but oh what an experience for me. It would make a great TV commercial for my books.
