Publisher's Description

"Greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world" (1 John 4:4). Taking this verse at face value provides the perfect opportunity to prove it in the educational setting of our children, say the authors of Going Public. By nurturing the life and power of Christ within them, students will be ready to stand against negative influences no matter the environment, even bringing light to a dark place. They will also benefit from many of the services that the often well-financed public school system has to offer. Readers of this practical guide will learn how moms and dads have a strategic role to play in the ongoing development of their school-age children. Discover what the Bible says about education, the three most important things to teach your public-school child, how to shape your child through teachable moments, the importance of getting involved at school and why everyone should "home-school," in addition to public school.

This is an exciting book for parents who are sending their children into the public school system. I read it in one session and really enjoyed it.

Prepare your child for the mission field of public schools. Equip them with the word of God and give the the tools necessary to thrive.

Not everyone has the option or feel compelled to home school. Not every one can afford a private school. However, that doesn't mean all is lost - or that you have no control of the education of your child. This one of a kind book, written by parents of a large family, encourages parents by giving practical ways to prepare your child for public school. The Pritchard's give parents three valuable lessons to instill in their children: (1) love God with all that they are; (2) Obey their parents completely; (3) self-control. Parents will learn what the bible says about education and their roll in the education process.

Although I homeschool our four children I found this book to be interesting. The principles taught are not only applicable for public educated children but for all children. Whether home schooled, private schooled or public schooled all children need to be trained and nurtured in Christ. The will be better prepared for life and confident in whom they believe in.

Excellent resource for any parent. After all, we all must "go public" at sometime, facing issues in the "real world" where the enemy lurks.

Thank you Regal Publishing for this review copy.

This book was awesome. It's empowering and biblically based. In the church today parents get pity if they send their kids to public school. This book encourages you that public school is just as loving of a choice as home or private school systems. This book is a blessing to ANY parent with kids in any system.

As an public school educator for 41 years I can not recommend this book more strongly. Every family, regardless of schooling experience or desire should read this "handbook" on how to raise strong Christian children.

Author/Artist Review

Author: David & Kelli Pritchard

Tell us a little about yourself.  We have been married for 25 years. We have eight kids ranging in age from 24 to 9 years old. Kelli has a degree in secondary education and social work from Indiana State University. David played football at Washington State University on the 1981 Holiday Bowl team. Today David serves as the Area Director for Young Life in the south Tacoma area. For more information you are welcome to visit our website goingpublicthebook.com.

What was your motivation behind this project?  One of our great passions, besides working with youth, has been parenting. Over the years we have done a lot of teaching and coaching of other parents. A trend that we noticed is fear, especially as it pertains to the public school. We often say there are good reasons to put your child in private or home school, fear isn't one of them. We looked at the resources available to parents with children in public school (which represents 89% of America). We were alarmed to find virtually no titles that encouraged or equipped these parents, but rather only negative and in some cases caustic titles imploring Christians to remove their kids from public school. We decided it was time to write a book that assumed God's sovereignty, even in the hallways of our public institutions. Going Public is not an anti home school or private school book. It is written to all parents; but specifically to parents that find themselves, for one reason or another, parenting children in public school. Our prayer is this project will give them some tools, give them some hope and give them some encouragement.

What do you hope folks will gain from this project?  We hope this project will better equip all parents in their great calling. Specifically we want parents of public school children to parent with confidence, knowing that what happens in the home far outweighs anything that could happen out there. They are their child's number one influence and their kids can thrive in public school!

How were you personally impacted by working on this project?  It was so great to be forced to articulate principles and beliefs that we held to be true. It has strengthened our marriage and improved our own parenting skills.

Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists?  Certainly our own parents were key mentors in both our lives. In addition to that over the years we have learned from many great authors and speakers. On our website we have listed our favorite book list.

Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know:  What you do as a parent does matter and you can do it. God has called you to this great task and therefore He is in your corner. It is possible to raise great kids; kids that love Jesus, love you and love other people.
