Product Description

Specifically designed to nurture the spiritual life of the youth leader, The Godbearing Life is a lively, practical guide for those who pastor young people. Dean and Foster rechart a course for youth ministry through the classical spiritual disciplines of the church. The book identifies families, congregations, and mentor relationships as the "holy ground" where young people are most likely to encounter God. Questions and exercises for personal reflections, educational use, and spiritual growth make this a valuable resource that can revitalize those in a "burnout" profession.

This book, more than any other I have read to date, describes the changes that must take place as youth ministry enters the 21st century. The authors focus upon the necessity of having spiritual, youth relationships rather than just social, youth recreation. The crying need today is for churches to minister as only they can do to the emptiness young people face in their lives. Rather than competing with secular programming, Christian youth ministries are called to offer something entirely different from the secular world. The authors describe in detail various measures to be taken that will energize youth in their Christian faith. This title is far from a book of programming ideas, but rather a very readable volume of philosophy and theology on youth ministry. I recommend it highly to all youth pastors, and other Christian professionals who will interact with teenagers on a regular basis.

A very good examination of youth ministry and what is at the heart of it. I would certainly recommend, and would even like to require, every mainline youth pastor to read this. It is written very intellectually, and while I personally found it delightful to read something written so well, it could potentially be difficult to wade through. Overall, this book comes highly recommended. I also truly appreciated the biblical integrity of this treatise.

INCREDIBLE. This book focuses youth ministry where it needs to be focused. This book is not just for those in youth ministry, it should be required reading for everyone in ministry. I found myself weeping, laughing, rereading again and again. I also let powerful words and one liners penetrate deep into my soul. It is so useful, I am giving it to me entire ministry staff, and plan on coming back to it several times.
