Julie Cantrell was born in Louisiana, where she grew up running barefoot over fire ant beds, swimming with alligators, and eating crawfish. Today, she lives with her husband and two spirited children in Mississippi, hallowed ground for many famous authors.

Kids can act brave when they are indoors with Mommy and Daddy, but as Julie Cantrell shows in God Is with Me Through the Day, it can get a little scary when they have to go out into the big world all alone -- to church, to school, even to play. As with her companion book in this series, God Is with Me Through the Night, Cantrell once again uses photos of domestic and wild animals to offer visual images of the lessons she is trying to share. The book uses a foundational text of Psalm 56:3, "When I am afraid, I will trust in you."

Most of the photos show baby animals with parents in protective mode. One photo shows a small, furry white polar bear standing beneath the enormous body of the strong daddy polar bear, and the caption reads, "I am never alone."

Another photo shows a mother penguin rubbing her beak along the face of her little chick penguin, and the caption states, "Mama kisses my cheek." Some of the animal photos are linked to Bible stories, such as a photo of a giant blue whale that has the caption, "God kept Jonah safe inside the whale."

Because the animal photos are humorous or outright cute, this is a book children will enjoy viewing many times. The biblical lessons are subtle but obvious enough for 4- to 7-year-old readers.
