This is a book edited by Wade Horton, former General Overseer of the Church of God (Cleveland, TN). Various Church of God theologians and pastors write about the glossalalia (Greek for Languages) within Pentecostal churches and experience. The book aims to defend the Pentecostal understanding that speaking in tongues is:1. The initial, physical evidence of Spirit-Baptism.2. A prayer language given by God to the believer for their use in private prayer.3. A gift of the Spirit to speak to the people of God (1 Cor. 14:4).The book is fairly dated so the arguments stem primarily from the time it was written (1960's). The writers do a good job of dealing with several texts concerning speaking in tongues as well as church history and the experience.
