This book that Larry Burkett has written is a disgrace to Christian, Tithing was for the state on Israel of food and herds grown in the state of Israel only, and never was required by the gentiles. The new covenentis what is taught and it is free will giving under grace. There is not a shred of evidence in the new covenantthat teaches anything except free will giving.

This book is a terrible resource for learning how to give freely and generously. The examples are eroneous and he does not properly interpret scripture in relation to tithing. Tithes are food, not money and never have been monetary. The book shouldn't even mention tithing and giving money in the same context, they are not the same. Mr. Burkett is another false, deceived and misguided spiritual leader. The blind leading the blind into a ditch. If Christians truly wanted to help the poor and needy, they would start right in their own communities. Look next door or down the street. Even within your own families. Sad. This book only helps to perpetuate the ideology of prosperity from giving to God. It is a tool to continue to deceive folks into giving their money to mega church ministries that do no real good. Don't buy it. Read the bible for yourself and you won't need silly books like this one.

In the first place, let's call it what it should be, "giving" not "tithing". I don't care much for the mega church thing, because it does build a heap of trouble and temptation for professional hirelings. The giving of a tenth is like training wheels, it teaches you how to give, then you remove those restraints and give more and as much as you want, instead of trying to figure out how little you can get by with giving to God and still be legal. Seek how much you can give God, not how little. I pastor out of my home receiving $500.00 a month and the church pays my utilities ($200.00 including a cell), no benefits or retirement. My cheerful giving of $350-400.00 a month (God's blessing) pays 1/2 of the church's $850.00 budget. The Bible is one book, read the whole book, if you are His child He will speak to you about it, if you are not seeking God in your search, you will be able to avoid Him, for now. If you don't want to give, it's in vain to anyway. All your doing is planting another's crop.
