I wish I had this book 10 years ago!

I was so excited to hear Vicki Caruana talk about her book on a Focus on the Family broadcast that afterwards I couldn't rest easy till I got my own copy. Now that I have it, I am not at all disappointed. There is enough information in this book to keep me engaged for a long time. Caruana imparts great instruction on how to really give to our children. I think every parent should have a copy of this book!

In Giving Your Child the Excellence Edge, Vicki Caruana lists ten traits that will help children achieve success: leadership, producing quality, creativity, cooperation, independent learning, critical thinking, managing information, managing time, confidence, efficiency, and the ability to self-assess.She breaks each trait into its constituent skills and gives practical strategies for training children. Each chapter ends with a section encouraging parental self-evaluation and practical ideas for encouraging the skills in the home, school, and workplace. She also suggests a family activity for each trait.Caruana writes in a straightforward, pleasant style with numerous anecdotes in this Focus on the Family book. Known as "America's Teacher," she specializes in books on education. This book would be useful for parents, homeschooling parents, and teachers for reading through once, for working on individual traits, or for reference book to evaluate how well your children are progressing. It is well-organized and well-written. Including a bibliography of books and organizations that she cites, as well as web site addresses, would improve the usefulness of this book. -- Debbie W.
