akgirl10001 Stars Out Of 5Really DisappointedDecember 30, 2014akgirl1000Quality: 1Value: 1Meets Expectations: 1I ordered this book, along with the accompanying devotional & book geared at moms. These were intended for an upcoming church event for mom's & daughters in the 3rd- 5th grade. I was really disappointed when I actually started reading through the books. This one specifically was very heavy in the works department. The book talks about having a clean room is the outward expression of the depth of your relationship with Christ. It also talks about what to do if your parents are too busy and you're feeling left out. It recommends that you talk to God about it & pray about it but it never once says to talk to your parents about your feelings too. It just tells them that sometimes parents get busy & they just need to understand that & pray that it will get better. Although I'm all for clean rooms & my kid understanding that I'm busy BUT I'm not for their clean room being their outward expression of their relationship with God. I want them to clean their room out of obedience to their parents & because THAT is what God's commanded. I want my child to come to me when they're feeling left out and alone. Yes, I will always encourage prayer as a priority but I also want my kid to talk to me about it. I'm imperfect & that could be a great lesson for them as well. And allow us both to seek God together.
I was just super disappointed that this wasn't going to work for us. I want our kids to seek scripture and a real relationship with Christ rather than an heavy laden book working off of a moms priorities.
