Get Set for the Code: Book B is the second book of three preliteracy primers which introduce all consonant letters; they are designed to be used before the Explode the Code series. Covering early literacy skills and letter formation, students will learn through visual, auditory, and kinesthetic activities that include tracing, matching, tracking, copying, and following directions. Book B teaches students consonants d, h, j, n, p and s with an emphasis on phonemic awareness and sound-letter correspondence.
Special emphasis is given to discriminating between similar objects and letters, to developing the motor control necessary to write legibly, and to developing the listening skills children need to follow directions carefully.
The Explode the Code Teacher's Guide for Books A, B, C (sold-separately) includes the teacher's portion of the listening exercises given in this workbook.

They use a lot of repitition which works well. My boys love doing them. I did notice that the pages of the B book are a little lower quality than the pages of the A book.

I'm homeschooling my 3 kids and needed something for my "Young 5's" kid. He was struggling with the curriculum I bought, it didn't give enough practice on each letter sound; the pace was too fast for him. He and I both love this book. When I get it out he says "Yay, I love this book 'cause I'm SOOO good at it!" I love that! After trying many phonics programs like Hooked on Phonics, Spectrum Phonics, Red Plaid books, BOB books, Starfall, and others that just didn't work for my older 3rd grade son who is still struggling, I wanted to give my other kids a better start. I am feeling much better about this one!
LolaBerryAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5My daughter loved it!November 19, 2012LolaBerryAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5My almost four year old daughter has loved doing the Get Ready, Get Set, and Go for the Code workbooks. It has really helped her with writing her letters and she loved all the activities in each section. I am definitely glad that we started at this level for her as it has given her such a great sense of accomplishment to have simple activities to do while working on her letter writing and sounds.

I have two children using it 5 and 4 years old. I don't like the fact that book b uses jack-o-lanterns for th letter j. We are Christian and don't celebrate halloween. I was surprised that a Christian book company would sell a product with this image. I did not want to send the book back, so I tore out a couple of pages and whited out the small images of jack-o-lanterns. If you don't mind this, the books are great. I have used books A,B,C,1, 1 1/2. I plan to purchase book 2 very soon.
FarmgirlWisconsinAge: 35-44Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Great tool. Just what I was looking for.May 24, 2012FarmgirlWisconsinAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5I have an education background, but am just getting started with homeschooling. My son just turned 5 last week, and my daughter is almost 4. My son is doing some easy reading with help, and my daughter is just showing interest. I am so glad I got the first three in the series for both of them. They were having a great time doing these today, and were very unhappy when we ran out of time and had to stop for lunch. I like the simple pictures, and the variety of examples.
