Publisher's Description

Gertie, GUPs, and the Bloomer Girls is a fictionalized account of actual events in the life of twelve-year-old Gertie Larson in her hometown of Richfield, Utah, in the early l900s. Gertie begins her story by explaining that GUPs stands for growing-up pains, and gives two examples of GUPs she observes caused by prejudice. When Gertie, herself, experiences the growing-up pains of jealousy, the death of a loved one, and fear, she shares how she turns to her Lord for forgiveness, comfort, and assurance, and receives His blessings abundantly.
In the concluding chapters, Gertie tells of the arrival of a famous all-girl baseball team, the Bloomer Girls, named after Amelia Bloomer, the designer of their loose-fitting trouser-like uniforms. During an exhibition game between this professional team and a local Richfield team, it is discovered that the visiting team is hiding a shocking secret. How Gertie responds to this upsetting revelation brings an exciting climax to Gertie's story, and proves that even GUPs can have a happy ending.
