I purchased the book after in-depth search for a geography textbook, and finally decided on this one based on the reviews - I figured additional insight to other educational focuses is only more beneficial to my children. However, it is in no way a textbook of any sort. Arguably, it gives you a list of books upon books (that are not readily available at my library) and scriptures for you to reference for certain topics. It also provides less than great color pages and activities for young children, not kindergarten - maybe 2nd or 3rd grade. But this was not what I was looking for. I wanted a book that I could open and teach from, not open and get a list of other things I need to find/get/reference so I could teach. Very disappointed. I think it would be a nice added plus to an existing geography/total homeschool curriculum, but it is definately not a stand alone product.

I purchased "Galloping the Globe" for two reasons. Reason #1 was my child wanted to explore countries/cultures. Reason #2 was I needed a curriculum to bridge the gap between Sonlight and My Father's World. Galloping the Globe is a unit study which takes you "around the world in 36 weeks."Each continent is divided into various countries. Each country is divided into the following sections: people/history, general reference books, literature, science, vocabulary, music/art/projects, internet resources and Bible. Additional resources I would recommend for the study include the following: Heaven's Heroes, Children Just Like Me, Celebrations: Children Just Like Me, and the Dorling Kindersley Animal Encyclopedia.

If you live in a small rural town this is not for you in my opinion. I had a difficult time finding most of the books that are suppose to be at the library. However, I liked the maps and activities it contains.

I think this is a wonderful way to introduce young children to geography. It is a very complete unit study, except for math, and will keep your little ones interested and busy. There are more than enough books in which to choose from that dives deeper into the understanding of each country. Considering God's Creation, Geography from A to Z, Children Just Like Me, and a Beginner's World Atlas are must haves to use with this curriculum. All other books can be borrowed from your local library.
