Most commentaries are too technical to be useful, but this resource is practical and understandable. It is extremely helpful with any Bible study.

This is a very good resource. I purchased this book to assist in my preparation for presenting the Book of Colossians in class and Sunday School. The section on Colossians was good but had little to address the heresy of Gnosticism that was encroaching on the church at Colossae. This book presents other opinions on what some other scholars perceive the heresy to be beyond Gnosticism but failed to truly address Gnosticism, or the other possible heresies. Without question the main point of the book is to present the supremacy of Jesus Christ in ALL things. However, the reason Paul is point that basic thought to the Christians in Colossae is due to "something else" trying to take, or diminish, the place of Jesus. This is a persistent problem today and the book of Colossians addresses this basic humanist tendency to want to add something to Jesus to make humans "feel good" about their vain, personal efforts toward attaining "salvation." This is why I was somewhat disappointed that the heresy issue was not more aggressively presented. On a whole this is a very good resource and the information is presented well, being organized and concise. I was simply looking for a more assertive address to the heresy issue in Colossians but that does not diminish this good volume.
