Homeschool Specialists' Spotlights
This particular course uses C.S. Lewis's Chronicles of Narnia to teach your fourth through eighth graders every required subject, except for math. With some fine arts, health, and cooking thrown in, it becomes a well-rounded curriculum for the entire year.
Handy appendixes offer a resource index for supplemental reading, viewing, and listening suggestions; an activity index with recipes for everything from Turkish Delight to Puddleglum's Eel Pie; even ideas for field trips and games! With numerous recommendations for additional study, the course is flexible for multiple students at different levels in different time schedules.
So why not go on an adventure with your children to Narnia this year? I guarantee that you'll learn so much more by using this resource. 340 pages, spiralbound softcover from Cadron Creek.

Kathy5 Stars Out Of 5June 28, 2010KathyI purchased the unit study "Further Up and Further In" for two reasons: 1. My child is interested in doing a unit study based on the classic C.S. Lewis books "The Chronicles of Narnia." 2. I am scheduled to teach an enrichment class on "The Chronicles of Narnia." "Further Up and Further In" is a unit study with each section corresponding to one of the books in "The Chronicles of Narnia" series. Topics covered in this unit study are: Bible, art, music, cooking, English, reading, health and safety, geographical studies/social studies, history, and science. The pluses of this curriculum are:1. The author does an outstanding job of extracting "Biblical truths" from "The Chronicles of Narnia" series. This provides the parent the opportunity to talk with their children in regard to the truths and how the relate to everyday life. 2. The curriculum can be used for a one to two year period of study. 3. The curriculum is extremely affordable. Additional resources can be obtained through a good library system. 4. The curriculum can be used with younger students in the elementary years and again with older students in the junior to senior high years. 5. The unit study approach is ideal for teaching basic library skills to younger children. In regard to older students this approach works well for reinforcing library skills, while teaching research skills. 6. The unit study approach allows the parent/child to pick and choose what topics to cover and how in depth to dive into a topic. The minuses of this curriculum are:1. The study has not been updated since it was written. Overall I think the concept of using the classic C.S. Lewis series "The Chronicles of Narnia" for a unit study is a fantastic idea. I am looking forward to using this curriculum in our homeschool to coincide with the movie release of "The Voyage of the Dawn Treader."
Q: Does this include writing or do I need to purchase a separate writing program. I will be using this with my 5th, 6th, and 7th grade kiddos.
This curriculum does not include instruction in writing. A separate writing and grammar curriculum is recommended to accompany it.
Q: If I use this curriculum, will I need to add in additional science and history?
This program will have enough information to completely cover Science and History. It may not all be in the book but it will list additional resources to do so.
