This book has been well researched and written. There are footnotes, and documentation along with many color images.

Mr. Maier is an excellent author. I have since purchased one of his fictions books from Christianbook.com and find it to be a pleasant read.

An intriguing book, which reads as if watching a movie on the events. I plan to make "The First Christmas" chapters a part of my readings for the Advent and Christmas seasons for years to come!

    Paul C. Merkley
Paul Maier is widely-admired as a scholar in the history and the literary legacy of the Biblical world. He knows exactly what an historical argument is and what a literary argument and what archeological proof is. He knows that the reliability of Scripture is never at risk where reason and historical method are unimpeded. He is acquainted with everything that has been brought to light by scholars in these fields in recent decades -- concentrating on the most recent astonishing discoveries -- and he brings all this to bear in a deft and engaging way. This would make an excellent text for small-group Bible studies. It is generously illustrated. Paul C. Merkley. Professor of History, Emeritus, Carleton University, Ottawa.

I keep on reviewing Dr. Maier's works, and I keep giving him 5 out of 5, because he deserves it each time. This book is truly awesome. It helps you understand the historical and cultural underpinnings of the first Christmas, Easter, and the Early Church. A must have for every serious Bible student!
