Karen Witemeyer never fails to deliver a mix of humor, love, and faith in her stories. Full Steam Ahead is no exception and I enjoyed every minute. From the first chapter, I was hooked. The story was fast-paced, the characters were complex, and the romance built steam steadily until it exploded at just the right time.
I love how Karen portrays her characters. None of them, not even the secondary characters, are portrayed as perferct. They are all enchantingly flawed. Nicole Renard is probably one of my new favorite heroines. She is determined, beautiful, humble, and loyal to a fault. She is smart, witty, and gritty all rolled into one fantastic character. Darius Thornton grumpy, yet kind; smart, yet exceedingly unconvenctional. I loved him from the very start.
Another thing I love about Karen Witemeyer: her ability to take an important lesson and weave it flawlessly into a story. Both of these characters make mistakes they think are unredeemable in God's eyes. Darius is haunted by his past. Nicole is running from her present mistakes. The message, as Darius so aptly puts it, is simple: "Repent from your mistakes, learn from them, and move forward. Trust God to bring good out of whatever mess you're in."
Overall, Karen Witemeyer expertly produces a story full of humor, love, and faith. I absolutely loved this story and look forward to more by this excellent author.
This was a new author for me but this won't be the last book I read of hers. I like the balance she strikes of humor, historical information, intrigue, and light romance. She kept things socially proper for the era as well as including a spiritual dilemma that lets us observe how the people process their feelings while trying to keep them in line with God's Word. Karen Witemeyer did not disappoint with this book and I'm glad to add her to my list of favorite authors!
Karen has not failed, she managed to capture me and pull me into yet another one of her stories. I have yet to find a book of Karen's that I don't like. There is a hint of humor in here, some falling in love, and some danger, what else could you ask for in a historical fiction book. I would highly recommend this book and any of Karen's other books she's written. There is a second book in this series that is already out for the Kindle, Love on the Mend, but no date for a paperback or hardback yet.
Witemeyer always writes an enjoyable tale of swooning romance blended with humor. This book does not disappoint. I admit that when I started the book I wasnt sure if I was going to like it as much as her previous books how could I have doubted Witemeyers skills to create another fabulous story? The book is full of unexpected and delightful twists and turns and of course sweet romance! Highly recommended.
Loved this book like all her others. Nicole has a lot of guts. She wants to please her father with everything she does in life. Good thing she meets Darius. He helps her to know she can please her father and herself. Looking forward to reading more books by Karen Witemeyer. I received this book from Bookfun.org for a fair and honest opinion.
