My teenage son is interested in joining the military. He wants to understand all that is involved in the soldier's training and experience after deployment. For this reason, he enjoys biographies and first hand accounts written by soldiers, chronicling their experiences. Unfortunately, many of these types of books are littered with profanity and express a calloused attitude toward human life and a godless world view. From Basic to Baghdad has given my son an opportunity to see military life through the eyes of a Christian soldier. It is true, and therefore realistic, but it has provided a refreshing change and balance to the other books he has read, demonstrating that one's Christianity can be walked out anywhere. July 8, 2008

This was a great book! It gives a firsthand account of Army Basic Training, Life in the Army, and deployment to Iraq. J.B.'s e-mails are so funny,and so are his moms "editors notes". I would recommend it for teens and especially for people considering joining the Army or any branch of the military. April 4, 2007
