At first, I wanted to be like Uncle Pete. He's a writer, and the magazine he works for sends him all over the world to write about hunting and fishing. He's hunted whales with the Eskimos on Hudson Bay, and even been tarpon fishing in Florida. When Uncle Pete offered to show me how to trap the foxes that were killing the chickens on our farm, Pa told me I wouldn't like trapping. That made me angry. But when I found out we used kittens for bait, I started to wonder if maybe Pa was right....
Daniel is excited by Uncle Pete's glamorous life as an outdoorsman and a writer, until his uncle teaches him how to trap foxes.
