Spitfire Sweetheart by Mary Connealy tells the tale of feisty Maizy MacGregor who has no desire to be told what to do, and certainly not by Rylan Carstens. Just because he told her to stay off his property doesn't mean she hadn't any intention on obeying him. But when her foolish deeds put the man in jeopardy, she feels she must somehow make restitution.

A Love Letter to the Editor by Robin Lee Hatcher weaves the story of Molly Everton who is infuriated to learn her father has hired someone to take over as the new editor for her town's newspaper, especially when she clearly is qualified to take the position herself. She immediately begins plotting on how to encourage Jack Ludgrove to move elsewhere.

A Cowboy for Katie by Debra Clopton is a delightful adventure of Katie Pearl who needs someone to help restore her ranch after its demolition by a tornado, so she hires Treb Rayburn. He only agrees to come to her aid because he'll get a horse out of the deal. Katie is one odd character that soon becomes endeared to the reader.

Courting Trouble by Margaret Bronwley shares the story of Grace Davenport who is in jail for the murder of her late husband. After her son's plea, attorney Brock Daniels agrees to represent her case. What will he do if the journey finds her guilty?

What a delight to read another group of stories from these four talented ladies. Prepare to be swept back in history to the era of the Old West. You won't be disappointed.

I'm a sucker for a good western story. I love them! I mean really, how can you beat a story with some fantastic cowboys. In my mind you can't. And with Four Weddings and a Kiss, you don't just get one handsome, hero cowboy, but four.

I enjoyed how this story started off, it brought the stories together well and offered a fun prologue to tie them up nicely for you, since each story is set in a different location, there was a fun connecting factor.

Since this is a book of novellas, I don't want to give too much away since the stories are short, but I will say that each story was set up well and offered a unique place for each story. None of the stories were rushed and each offered an interesting back story to bring the couples in the stories together.

This book really is fun, light book for summer. It offers adventure, some mystery, and sweet romances with a dash of comedy. I've enjoyed books by several of the authors, and introduced to a new one through this collection. I look forward to discovering more of her stories.

If you love these authors, they don't disappoint.

Thank you to Litfuse Publicity and Thomas Nelson, I received a copy of this book for free in exchange for an honest review.

    Encouragement for mismatched couples

As this collection of novellas opens, a bunch of cowboy pastors are sitting around a campfire relaxing after revival meetings. A young one voices his concern. He loves a woman, and she loves him, but they are just so unsuited for each other! The other pastors laugh. They'd seen some greatly mismatched couples who had hitched and lived happily ever after. To encourage the young pastor, four of the others tell stories of some of the most unlikely romances one could imagine.

Mary Connealy creates the story of Maizy, a rough and tumble woman who doesn't like dresses or fixing up her hair. Britches are just fine as she helps her pa with ranching. That is until the handsome Rylan buys the ranch next to theirs. When Maizy is at the wrong place at the wrong time, she puts Rylan's life in danger. While Rylan heals from his injuries, Maizy's pa thinks it is a good idea for her to care for the invalid - dressed like a woman is supposed to.

Robin Lee Hatcher gives us the story of Molly, columnist for her father's newspaper in the Wyoming Territory. Her father hires a new editor for the job Molly thought she'd get. When the handsome Jack arrives, sparks fly. She knows that right now it is a man's world, but it won't always be that way. She's bound and determined to show Jack what a woman can do.

Debra Clopton invites us to the world Katie Pearl, a tough Texas rancher who recently lost her pa and their house when a twister went through. Some think she's not quite right in the head after being buried by debris for several days. She's determined to rebuild, all the while fending off the suitors who want her property - at gun point. When a stranger hits town, he promises her he's not the marrying kind so she hires him on the spot. Treb finds out he has quite a challenge before him.

Margaret Brownley takes us to Colorado where Brock, a fancy lawyer from Philadelphia, agrees to defend a woman accused of killing her third husband. (Her first two died under suspicious circumstances too.) Before the end of the first day of trial, Brock realizes he is no match for the kind of law practiced in the wild west. Nor is he a match for the woman who has captured his heart.

You'll enjoy these stories just like that young pastor did. You'll find that God sometimes puts the most unlikely people together - just the way He wants to. The stories are short so the romances go fast but they sure are fun. The authors have done a good job of developing characters, even in these short works. The stories are encouragement to those finding they march to a different drummer. I really enjoyed the collection.

I received a complimentary egalley of this book through a publicity group for the purpose of an independent and honest review.

    About the book:

In the Prologue a group of pastors are each going to take turns telling a young preacher about different couples and the difficulties they overcame to be together in an effort to convince the young man to put aside his reservations about the woman he is in love with.

    MY REVIEWS:

    Spitfire Sweetheart by Mary Connealy

In the first story Maizy MacGregor has been raised on a cattle ranch by her father. When new neighbor Rylan Carstens first meets her Maizy is in a pair of pants getting ready to go work out in the pastures. Rylan is stunned by his attraction to Maizy and covers it up by criticizing her appearance in men's clothing. When an accident caused by Maizy brings the two into close proximity for weeks at a time Maizy's father insists that she learn to act and dress like a lady, and Rylan is just the man to teach her.

I enjoyed Maizy and Rylan's story. I loved how Maizy was a take-charge kind of gal. Both Rylan and Maizy learned a good lesson on accepting and being who God created them to be.

A Love Letter to the Editor by Robin Lee Hatcher

Molly Everton's father owns the local newspaper. Molly is upset when her father doesn't hire her as the new editor. Instead he has hired Jack Ludgrove, a man that Molly is determined to run out of town and give her her rightful spot as editor.

Molly has had several suitors in her time but none have captured her heart. Jack has come west to find adventure and only plans on staying in town a couple of years. Will these two be able to deny the attraction they feel for each other in order to follow through with the plans they have for their own lives?

A sweet story showing the reader that God's plans are not always our plans, no, they are so much better! I enjoyed Molly and Jack's story very much.

A Cowboy for Katie by Debra Clopton

Treb Rayburn is a rambler. He's been all over and intends to continue to travel. His horse has just died and so he must find work to afford another horse and be on his way. While asking for a job in Midway, Texas a young woman named Katie Pearl pokes her head into the mercantile and hires him on the spot. Her father has just been killed in a tornado that went through their property and since then Katie has not been "right" in the head. People have taken to calling her "Crazy Katie". She talks to herself and has run everyone off of her land with a gun. Treb is just the person she needs to help her rebuild her home. He's a man who isn't interested in stealing her land or in marrying her, a wanderer in need of money who will then move on. But they are both lonely souls without any family who find comfort in each other's company. What will happen when Katie's home is rebuilt and it is time for Treb to move on?

I loved Katie and Treb! Treb has demons of his own that he is carrying around, but he has made his peace with God. I love how he helps Katie not only rebuild her home, but also rebuild her confidence. His tenderness with her is touching. Of course I always love a feisty female character and Katie doesn't disappoint. She carries a gun and a whip and she knows how to use them much better than some men that have come sniffing around her property! Yet there is a vulnerability about her that Treb is drawn to which adds a softness about her and allows his protectiveness to shine through. I think I would like to have read a longer version of their story.

    Courting Trouble by Margaret Brownley

Brock Daniels is a lawyer from Philadelphia now practicing in Colorado. When young Jesse comes into his office and offers him fifty-six cents to represent his mother in her upcoming trial. Grace Davenport is known among the townspeople as The Black Widow. After all her most recent husband to die was number 3!

Brock agrees to take Grace's case after he meets her. He can't help but see her innocence. The last time Brock defended someone though they were wrongly found guilty and hung. Brock knows the law, but in such a small town the rumors have flown and everyone believes that Grace is guilty of murdering her husband. With the trial held in the local saloon, and disinterested drunks as jurors will Brock be able to prove that Grace did not kill her husband?

I really liked the characters in this story. I liked how Brock took Jesse under his wing and started teaching him the law. I liked how Jesse cared for his mother and wanted to defend her and protect her and always believed in her innocence. I thought the romance was a bit rushed, but what is a reader to expect in a short story?

    Summary:

I enjoyed FOUR WEDDINGS AND A KISS very much. Each story was unique and fun to read. I loved all of the characters and found that I might have liked to read "more" of some of their stories. I liked how all of the stories were tied together by the Prologue of the pastors telling these stories to a young pastor that isn't sure he can marry the woman he loves because she has some unconventional ways about her. The book ended with the Epilogue and this young pastor making up his mind about his lady love.
