"Faith is not just meant for church on Sunday," contends Mark Cosgrove. "Faith and learning are interwoven with each other for the full functioning of the human mind." A book that details this interconnection between faith and learning, Foundations of Christian Thought encourages readers to view the Christian faith and worldview as relevant to everything they read, study, and consider.
In part 1, Cosgrove explores the relationship between faith and learning and how an underlying worldview can influence one's beliefs. Part 2 describes and tests five major worldviews competing with Christian theism, including naturalism, secular humanism, atheistic existentialism, pantheism, and the New Age movement. The last part probes the Christian worldview in more detail by analyzing the challenges it faces and how it is lived out day-to-day.
An educator on the college campus for thirty years, Cosgrove testifies to how well the Christian worldview relates with the current needs and ideas in American culture. Through Foundations of Christian Thought, high school and college students will begin to see how the Christian worldview is relevant to what they are studying in the classroom and the decisions they make. Readers in the workforce and elsewhere will learn to relate their faith to modern worldviews in our culture.
Geralin Mosley5 Stars Out Of 5An exceptional author and bookDecember 12, 2010Geralin MosleyDr. Mark Cosgrove gave a wonderful unbiased presentation of the different worldviews and how learning about other worldviews will allow you to become more evolved in your own faith. He is very knowledgeable about different worldviews. He was so detailed in his accounts that he allowed the most difficult terms easy to understand. As a Christian myself I could easily relate to his writings, but individuals who are not familiar with Christian theism can also easily relate to the different scenarios presented in this book. The Christian Worldview was not presented alone, he went into detail about all six worldviews. He shows us that faith and learning work together to create our own personal worldview. I encourage other readers to take heed and understand that the Christian faith is tested daily and Cosgrove gives you the knowledge you need to be able to withstand the test. Even if you believe in one of the other worldviews mentioned by the end of the book you will have a better understanding for the other worldviews. The most important thing that Mark Cosgrove reminds his readers is that we as individuals have different lifestyles and believes, but we all must respect the next person's beliefs.
