Entertaining sports film is not Christian
October 9, 2015
This is a fairly clean film. There is no cursing and no sex but there is one obscene hand gesture, underage drinking, and passing references to recreational drug use. It is very inspirational, has great acting and will engage even those unfamiliar with rugby. Character building and clean living are greatly emphasized. However, it is not a Christian film. I viewed it with the hope of putting it in our church library and that is not going to happen. Jesus is not mentioned. However, karma and calling on one's ancestors via a Maori chant are beliefs that are voiced. The real-life coach upon whom the movie is based is a Mormon.
Out of all the "Christian" movies I've bought for my 2 teen boys, this is still their favorite. My 16 yr. old told me the other day that he recommended it to a few of his friends...that says a lot in my book! It's fast paced and the acting is very good. A good movie about loyalty and encourages teens to do the right thing in tough circumstances. It does show some of the guys without shirts on, so if you're watching with young girls you might want to view first. There's also some teen drug & alcohol use at the beginning, it's not over the top, just enough to make a point. We really enjoyed this movie!
