Publisher's Description

Unlock the Male Mystery

Guys will be guys. And now girls can know what that means! For Young Women Only dives into the mysterious inner-workings of the teenage male mind so that you can begin to understand why guys say and do what they do. Exploring critical topics including respect, insecurity, appearance, physical affection, and the "tough and tender"-ness of guys, this book is also packed with "ask the expert" sections, quotes, and fun personal stories from guys in all walks of life. Why is he so visually stimulated? You may wish it weren’t so, but that won’t make it so. I don’t want to put on a front for him to like me. Actually, he wants your genuineness, too! This book will help you grasp how God wired the opposite sex so you can enjoy your relationships with them.

Why Are Guys So Weird?

Unravel the mystery. A national scientific survey and in-depth personal interviews give you an unprecedented look inside the teenage male mind. Discover how: He’d be perfectly fine if he was loved by few and hated by many…as long as he was respected by all His ego is the size of Africa (but so are his insecurities) He hides his real feelings under a tough exterior He’s magnetized by pretty girls–but also wants to find a diamond in the rough He actually does want to marry a virgin He just wants you to be yourself.

It’s the inside scoop you’ve been waiting for! You’ll come to not only understand him, but also know what he might really be thinking about you.

"This is a phenomenal book that I wish I’d had as a teenager!"
-Shannon Ethridge, Bestselling author, Every Young Woman’s Battle

"Girls, this book is a MUST-read!"
-Candace Cameron Bure, Actress, speaker

Story Behind the Book

"My teenage daughter really needs to hear this!" Such was the typical reaction from countless men and women who read Shaunti Feldhahn ’s bestselling For Women Only."If forty-year-old women are surprised by the truth about how men think, we realized the value in helping teenagers discover these realities as well," says Shaunti. Teaming with her best friend Lisa Rice, a mother of teen girls and the coauthor of For Women Only Discussion Guide, they launched a major national survey of guys fifteen to twenty. Their surprising findings are revealed here to help girls improve their relationships with the opposite sex, now and into the future.

Author Bio

Shaunti Feldhahn

Shaunti Feldhahn is a bestselling author, newspaper columnist, and public speaker. She holds a master’s degree in public policy from Harvard University and has worked on Wall Street and Capitol Hill. Shaunti is a nationally syndicated weekly columnist on women’s issues for the Atlanta Journal-Constitution.

Lisa A. Rice

Lisa A. Rice is the associate editor of Christian Living magazine and an experienced screenwriter and producer with her husband, Eric, at the Atlanta-based 44 Films.

Bestselling author Shaunti Feldhahn has created another winner. For Young Women Only is a self-help book for women in their teenage years to early twenties. The book itself gives helpful tips to “figure out” guys. Though the topic may seem impossible, Feldhahn, with the help of Christian Living’s associate editor Lisa A. Rice, tackles the issues and brings them into terms we all can understand. With real-life stories and facts shared by guys speaking candidly, the book is an asset to any young woman’s library.
The journey through the male brain begins with a promise from the authors to be truthful and respective of the “other” gender. It moves through with outstanding polls from guys 15-20 years old as well as other surveys used in Feldhahn’s first book For Women Only. This is an easy read where the authors speak to you about the subjects at hand. The book provides help from experts in marriage, media, and sexuality. With more than ample proof of their findings, it gives gals a sure-fire chance to comprehend men’s brains.
There are many questions pertaining to men. Even though we live next to them and deal with them every day, they still can seem like aliens. Feldhahn and Rice give readers the ability to check out anything from issues of respect and body language to dealing with men while still keeping true to one’s self and to God. The biggest point made in this book is that men would rather have a woman’s respect than even her love. The authors say, “What men need is unconditional respect--to be respected for who they are, apart from how they do.” Women are love-wanting not respect-wanting, so it’s hard for them to make that connection. Quotes from guy after guy make this point through other topics as well, whether it’s about body image, sex, or even friends.
For Young Women Only not only makes a reader want to go “Oh!” it also provides a few “Ah-ha!” moments. All teenage girls should sit down and read this before heading into high school. I can’t imagine how different guys would’ve looked to me had I taken the time to figure them out. This is a book that an older woman could read and receive just as much information as a teenager. If you are looking for a shortcut into the male brain, this is it. Take the time, read it, soak it up and live it. I guarantee it’ll make your life a lot easier. – Mallory L. Lahr, Christian Book

Easy to read. Gets to the point. My daughter loves the book and highly recommends it for all the young girls to read it. The book is not too long to read but short enough to get the points across.

I first picked up the book thinking it would be an interesting read. Months later, I'm still processing what I learned. I thought I knew so much about guys, but I was so wrong! My friend and I got together, ordered a bunch more of the books, and are now leading a book discussion with teenage girls. Every time we meet for discussion, lightbulbs go on, not just for the girls but for my friend and I as well! Over and over, I've gone to a trusted male family member or friend and asked, "Is this true?" And over and over, the man has replied, "Yes. You didn't know that?" As I change many of the ways in which I interact with guys, I see a surprisingly positive response from guys. I am loving it!

Drawing on the results of surveys, interviews, and focus group discussions, the authors reveal 6 surprises about guys:

    1. Guys need respect: Guys would rather feel unloved than inadequate and disrespected.

    2. Guys are insecure: Although guys look confident--even cocky at times--they are often insecure in themselves. They worry that they will be found out, and therefore are drawn to girls who help them feel like they measure up.

    3. Guys are tough and indestructible: Guys look indestructible, but on the inside their hearts are tender, easily hurt, and strongly guarded. However, they will let down their defenses when they know their heart will be safe with a girl.

    4. Guys are visual: Even decent guys in great dating relationships struggle with the desire to visually linger on and fantasize about the female body--and much of the struggle depends on what the girl is wearing.

    5. Guys are all out for one thing: Teenage guys are conflicted by their powerful physical desires, which also have massive emotional consequences. Guys need your help to protect both of you.

    6. Guys go after the hot girls: Guys are attracted to girls with a good personality as well as inner and outer beauty, but they can't force a physical attraction.

The book is filled with real-life examples and quotes from the guys themselves (some of which are hysterically funny). I would highly recommend this book for any young woman who wants to become a better classmate, friend, sister, daughter, girlfriend, or future wife!

I have used this book three different times over the last four years for Jr and Sr High girls. It never ceases to amaze me how little they understand teenage boys but they always want to learn. There is great info delivered in a way they can understand and learn from. I would recommend it to any teenage girl, especially the ones who think they don't need it.

I had "For Women Only", finally read it, ordered "For Young Women Only" which my younger daughter (soon to be 19) is reading and last night I heard her boyfriend reading her book aloud as they were together laughing in affirmation. I just ordered "For Young Men Only", which he cannot wait to read from cover to cover! Thank you, thank you! Expectations based on facts make for loving-lasting relationships w/ others and certainly w/ our Lord!
