Product Description

"The oratorio carries its theme through a series of resourceful modulations to a music-hall finale, setting the Flight into Egypt---'the Land of Unlikeness'---against a real-estate development of the Waste Land. Profoundly grasped and impressively orchestrated,"---The New Republic. Auden's only explicitly Christian long poem. 136 pages, hardcover. Princeton University.

This review was written for For the Time Being.
Reading, For the Time Being was my first Annie Dillard experience. WOW! I was continuously blown away as I (with my Merriam Webster by my side) read Annie's telling of things. Things?! Things remarkable; heart-breaking; unbelievable (but, believed); mind-bending; many, too cerebral for me to understand. But, mesmerized, mystified, strong and of a good courage, I plunged ahead. Anyone passing by my bed (where I live)I stopped and held captive while I read lines and paragraphs just too wonderful to keep to myself. After reading For the Time Being, I immediately borrowed, Pilgrim at Tinker Creek from my lending library. Then I bought, Pilgrim and Teaching a Stone to Talk. Just can't imagine where this woman has been all my life.
