Kathy5 Stars Out Of 5Gentle Art of Learning for the 21st CenturyApril 24, 2012KathyQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5As a child I was first introduced to the teachings of Charlotte Mason from my grandmother, who had been home educated with Charlotte's philosophy of education. Upon entering the 21st Century my husband and I decided we wanted to home educate our child using Charlotte's method, but needed guidance in the process. Through a friend I discovered Susan Schaeffer Macaulay's book "For the Children's Sake."
In her book Susan uses a conversational tone to tell you her own story of how she came to be introduced to Charlotte Mason and her teachings. The author takes you on a journey of Charlotte's educational philosophy beginning with "What Is Education?, Children Are Born Persons, Authority and Freedom, A New Perspective, Education: A Science of Relationships, The Way of the Will, Reason and Unity of the Whole."
"For the Children's Sake" is an excellent introduction to the educational philosophy of Charlotte Mason.
If you would like to continue to read about the Charlotte Mason philsophy of education, I would highly recommend the "Original Homeschooling Series."
LINDY GREAVESSouth AfricaAge: 35-44Gender: female4 Stars Out Of 5A good book to help form your homeschool visionDecember 29, 2010LINDY GREAVESSouth AfricaAge: 35-44Gender: femaleQuality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4If you're starting out home schooling or need to breathe new life and passion into what you ever type of homeschool you're doing, this may be the book for you. I felt reassurance and affirmation after reading this book, I am meant to be homeschooling and training up my children, at home. Those who like Charlotte Mason will especially enjoy this read, as Ms Macaulay was largely influenced by CM. I must say that I did not find it an easy relaxing read, though a worthwhile one it was. It can also be read by mothers who do not homeschool but wish to read more about CM methods.
