ASC Book ReviewsNMAge: 18-24Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5Love love love this book!March 18, 2014ASC Book ReviewsNMAge: 18-24Gender: femaleThis review was written for For Love or Loyalty, MacGregor Quest Series #1.I was SO blessed by this story! For love or loyalty is such an adventure and full journey! Lauren is the kind of Christian woman I want to be and yet this book also holds the reality that even the strongest in Faith have their moments of fear and, sadly, doubt. It also shows how as humans we can't always see the big picture like God can, but that doesn't mean He leaves us! :) Starting out in Scotland Jennifer takes us across the sea to America. The hardships of travel for both the people able to pay and the indentured servants is shown realistically from sickness to danger. There are many great characters in this as Malcolm and Lauren find friends on and off the ship, but their are also many enemies with terrible intentions. Through it all God watches over them as He shapes them into the people they need to be through the trials they face and the decisions they make. Twists and surprises abound within these chapters. Just when I thought I knew what was going to happen Jennifer threw in another turn that I didn't see coming. For Love or Loyalty is a great read with adventure, suspense, Faith, love, courage, hope and so much more! I cannot wait for For Love or Country!!! This is a MUST READ!!! :)

Everything is on the line in this tale. Lauren's father has committed a fatal and very personal crime against Malcolm's family. What begins as an act of revenge leads to a plan to trade Lauren for the freedom of his mother and sister. It won't be without challenges, though. They must cross the ocean together to begin looking for his family and they may not be prepared for the obstacles that wait for them.
As Malcolm's feelings for Lauren begin to change, he questions his original plan, but what choice does he have? By the time he decides he cannot bear to indenture Lauren, she makes a heart-wrenching decision herself and her choice leads to circumstances worse than either of them could have imagined. Now, Malcolm has to find Lauren and a way to rescue her, along with his family.
This book is one of the best books I have ever read and I heartily recommend it to everyone. Jennifer's characters are so real and well-developed and I've found myself missing reading about them since I finished the book. Jennifer carries us through their story so well. Just when things look like they're going to be okay, the next heartbreaking trial enters and we are left wondering how they are going to survive it. While I find most books somewhat predictable, this one was not. When I thought I knew what was going to happen next, I was surprised by what did occur. This book kept me up well into the night because I just couldn't put it down. It's well-written, entertaining, pulls at your heart, and is sure to be your next favorite. I can't wait to read more of Jennifer's books, as this was my first.

By the time she realizes she's the bargaining price to free Malcolm's mother from indentured servitude, it's too late.
Malcolm MacGregor only wants to free his family and exact revenge against Duncan Campbell. As the pride and joy of Duncan's life, his daughter Lauren is the perfect answer, but during the voyage to America, her faith continues to witness to Malcolm. He becomes enraptured with her, and upon their arrival, discovers he's sold her into a fate worse than death. Now Malcolm has the dilemma: free his family or rescue Lauren? Time is short and with little means, he needs a miracle.
My Review:
I'm a big fan of reading about voyages to America. Maybe it's because we are all immigrants of the heart here in America's big melting pot. Or maybe it's because something about wanting a better life no matter what the cost that calls to each of us across the winds of time. This novel wasn't all about the voyage, but it was most certainly one of my favorite elements of the story. Add to it the drama of being sold off in return for personal gain, and you've got the kind of story that demands to be read.
The characters were well developed, with the hero and heroine having enough conflict between them to serve up grounds for some serious revenge. When Malcolm discovers his what he's done, it's a race against time and fate, with everything that matters on the line. How do you choose between your family and the one your heart loves? Taylor's first novel in the MacGregor Legacy series is a captivating, spell-binding and riveting journey from Scotland to South Carolina, and embodies the spirit of the times with all the elements of a perfect story. This novel is not to be missed, and I highly recommend it.

Theresa5 Stars Out Of 5A MUST READ!!!!November 21, 2013TheresaQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This review was written for For Love or Loyalty, MacGregor Quest Series #1."For Love or Loyalty" takes place in Scotland in 1760 and involves two feuding families: the Campbells and the MacGregors. When Duncan Campbell oversteps his position and ruins Malcolm MacGregor's home and family, Malcolm decides he will seek revenge, and that means using Duncan's daughter, Lauren, to get it.
Fast-paced and fully captivating, I found myself lost in the past and totally involved with both Malcolm and Lauren who both ended up being victims of Duncan's wrath and sick sense of justice. As the story unfolds, I became truly in love with both Malcolm and Lauren. Lauren because of her patience, love and faith and Malcolm because he was a very good and honorable "mon" underneath all the anger he felt caused by Duncan's horrible deed. As Malcolm spends time thinking and seeing the Lord move through Lauren, he slowly realizes his actions have consequences that are just as bad as what Duncan did to his family.
This book is a must read for any fan of Scottish or early Colonial history as well as those who enjoy great Christian fiction. The Christian message is not over the top but is placed well throughout the story. It is realistic and is where it would be most used in certain situations: death, sickness, danger, etc. It is also realistic in the fact that some characters question where God was when things happened. Because of this, I think that even a secular audience would enjoy the storyline without feeling preached to.
This book/new series comes HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!!

From the back cover: Can the strings of his heart foil his ruthless plan?
Malcolm MacGregor wants revenge. After the rival Campbell clan sells his mother into indentured servitude, he devises a scheme to free her–swap his mother for Lauren, the innocent Campbell daughter.
Seeking peace between their families, kind-hearted Lauren agrees to help but doesn't realize the sacrifice she'll have to make. When the truth is revealed that she is the bargaining price to free Malcom's mother, it's too late. They are on a ship bound for America and Lauren fears their arrival will forever doom her to a fate worse than death.
While Lauren clings to her faith, her only comfort, that same faith begins to make Malcom question what it is that he's done. But can he save them both? If he has to choose, will Malcom fight for love—or loyalty?
There is a touch of "Romeo and Juliet" in this story with the hatred between the two families and Malcolm and Lauren's romance. That is where the similarity ends and the action really takes off. The journey to free Malcolm's mother take the duo from Scotland to America on a long, dangerous voyage. Along the way the romance really begins, however Malcolm still keeps to his plan and sells Lauren. Now that he has done what he planned he regrets his actions but can he really save both of them or is he going to have to choose one over the other? "For Love Or Loyalty" is a nice romance also filled with action and suspense. Jennifer Hudson Taylor has filled this story with many themes, Revenge, Bitterness, Betrayal and what it produces in the person. I enjoyed this aspect of the book as this is not a theme that is popular. Want a fun read that will not only entertain you but make you think as well? Well then I recommend "For Love Or Loyalty".
