My girls understand the information and often complain when I stop reading the text for the day.

I would highly recommend the other items: notebooking journal, lesson plans and website. They are fantastic additions to the course! Engaging, fun and well-rounded.

newcreationingodMichiganAge: 18-24Gender: female2 Stars Out Of 5Leaving Apologia for greater Scriptural integrityJuly 5, 2013newcreationingodMichiganAge: 18-24Gender: femaleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 1We bought this book because of the raving reviews for Apologia science, as well as the HS biology and chemistry series. We were quite sure that we were buying a creationist curriculum and soon found that there is a good deal of evolution in this curriculum. This book for example, encourages young readers to identify themselves in the animal kingdom and find what taxonomical title bests suits humanity. It was very disappointing that Apologia does not encourage students to understand that God has placed man above the animal kingdom but that they rather encourage readers to place themselves a little higher than the chimp. The biology textbook likewise teaches that humans and chimps share about 90% of their DNA. While they do not teach that humans came from chimps but that this demonstrates how God uses a good design more than once, the research that revealed such statistics depended more on selective editing than science and I was very disappointed to see Apologia endorsing it. The curriculum had a lot of experiments that we enjoyed and great photography, but we were also not pleased with the way it would send students to secular science sites for answers to questions, as even the paragraphs that they were encouraged to read taught evolution. This book was very informative and we found it very interesting, but it required far more prepping than we wanted in order to ensure that the students in our home were only receiving a Biblical view of the world. We have since been on the search for a more Scriptural curriculum that will not open-endedly question evolution or creation, but which will firmly educate students about its unbiblical pagan roots and unsupported hypotheses.
Q: I was wondering if I buy the text book and the notebooking journal, if I need to invest in the lab kit as well. Thanks!
The lab kit contains all the items needed to complete the activities in the Zoology 1 text. You can see a list of the contents under Contents (PDF) at stock #WW697400, Apologia Zoology 1 Lab Kit. If these are items you already have, you would not need the lab kit.
Q: I'm looking into buying the Apologia Zoology 2 and wondering if you have to start with Zoology 1 first? I'm looking into buying the Apologia Zoology 2 and wondering if you have to start with Zoology 1 first? My kids are more interested in the sea animals than flying animals right now. But that would be doing them backwards, just wanted to know if that mattered. Thanks!Julie
The publisher recommends doing the Zoology books in order because there are terms defined in Book 1 that are used in Book 2, and terms defined in Book 2 that are used in Book 3. However, if a parent has a general knowledge of life science and you do the Zoology books out of order, the parent can just explain those terms as they are encountered.
Q: if we do the journaling notebook along with the textbook, do we really need the lapbooking products too?
No, the lapbooks are an additional supplement, like the notebooking journal, that allow the student to review the lessons in a more artistic venue.
