This book is written by Kurt & Brenda Warner. Kurt is a well known football player that lead the Rams to a Super Bowl victory. Most recently he took the Cardinals to the Super Bowl against the Steelers (anyone playing against the Steelers has my vote!). Although I have had a favorite football team since childhood (Dallas Cowboys) I do not watch football regularly. Unless it is a Dallas game, I really don't care about football at all. What attracted me to this book was the picture of Kurt, Brenda, & seven kids on the front cover. I was immediately interested in how a celebrity family raises that many kids. When I read that they were Christians I was even more interested!

Kurt & Brenda openly share their stories of before and after they got married and his career took off. They share of hardships and blessings they encountered relating to having a special needs child, money, the pressures of a public life, etc. They share their family rules throughout the book. They share about their charities and ministries. They share how each of their children uniquely fit into the family dynamics.

I was surprised about how easy it was to read this book. I felt like I was in the middle of a conversation during the whole book. I could feel the Warner's emotions as they talked about their frustrations, hurts, victories, and love. They are transparent and honest when they talk about their feelings for each other, their children, and the people they help with their ministries. I love how they try to instill a servant's heart in each of their children. Since both of them know what it is like to not have any money, they are careful to give God the glory for their current financial blessings by tithing (even multi million checks) and funding charities and ministries for communities and those less fortunate. They seem to really work together as a team in their marriage and with parenting. Overall, I think that this is an excellent book and would recommend it to anyone wanting to know more about the Warner family. More importantly, I would recommend it to anyone trying to raise multiple children. The Warner "rules" for marriage and parenting are practical and would be easy to adapt to any family of any size. I look forward to sharing some of them with my husband (since he probably won't read the book) to see if we can incorporate them into our family.

I don't remember ever hearing of Kurt Warner until I was browsing through the Tyndale House website. Then again, I am not much of a big football fan so how would I know about him? What attracted my eye was the fact that he and his wife, Brenda, have seven children. I am always interested in large families, especially Christian families. I enjoy learning about their family, how they do things and look forward to what I can glean from them.

The Warners appear to be a pretty normal family, considering Kurt is a celebrity and all. As a couple, they know what it is like to struggle financially and do their best not to take their current income for granted. They are all about their faith, their marriage, their family and others - in that order.

I love how their oldest son has been such a source of inspiration for so many of their ministry opportunities. I enjoyed how frank and openly they shared their lives with those of us who would read their book.

Kurt and Brenda really seem to have some great ideas about parenting. It is evident how much they love each other and their kids. Something they do is when their children are fighting they have them hold hands, if that doesn't work, then the children have to go cheek to cheek and if that still doesn't work lips to lips!

I thoroughly enjoyed this book and would recommend it to anyone who is interested in learning more about the Warners life.

you know Kurt Warner as an NFL quarterback, a contestant on "Dancing with the Stars" and as an NFL analyst with Fox and the NFL Network.

as an NFL football player, Warner won two Regular Season MVP Awards and he was the MVP of Super Bowl XXIV when he and the St. Louis Rams defeated the Tennesse Titans. he also played for the New York Football Giants and the Arizona Cardinals. Warner led the Cardinals to their first Super Bowl appearance against the Pittsburg Steelers in Super Bowl XLIII. the Cardinals lost in a thriller.

Warner retired from the NFL in January of 2010. he was a contestant on ABC's "Dancing with the Stars" and he now works as an analyst and commentator for Fox and the NFL Network.

Arizona Cardinal fans would love to see him come out of retirement. they've been through a few quarterbacks this season.

by all acounts, Kurt Warner is a real good guy. he is a man of great faith. he is never one to shy away from expressing his beliefs and making sure he puts first things first.

Kurt and his wife Brenda Warner are the authors of First Things First. the book is an autobiography of the Warner family.

the Warner family is nine strong; Kurt and Brenda have seven children. if they had two more kids they would have enough people to field an offense, defense, or special teams unit on Sunday afternoons.

the stories throughout the book are wonderful. it's an inside look (but not a creepy inside look) into their marriage, family life, and faith.

it's great reading for NFL fans, couples, and families.

I am not a football fan but I am a Mother of 4. When I picked up First Things First, I was not sure what to expect. I did not already know Kurt and Brenda's story. I did not know who Kurt was or even who the Cardinals were!

Before I knew it, I was hooked on the Warners story. I couldn't imagine what I could possibly have in common with an NFL players family. These two really surprised me!

First, Kurts complete transparency in his writing touched me. His love for his wife and children warmed my heart. He shares everything with his readers. He shares the good, the bad, the embarassing and the pride that we all experience but may never speak about.

Brenda also openly shares about everything from her time on public assistance to jealousy and her intimate feelings for everyone in her life.

The Warners grab you and place you right up front and center in their family with all of the chaos, noise, arguements and prayers. They offer refreshing advice that the world needs today. Too many families are living their lives as strangers without faith or hope.

I went from feeling unsure while looking at this cover and thinking "football" to grabbing a notebook to record the Warner family "rules" and various quotes that spoke to me.

This is such an inspiring story that leaves you wanting to be more - to do your best and to step out of your comfort zone to be a better spouse, parent, friend and more!

I've never said this before but I don't think I can do this book justice in a blog review. You just really need to get your hands on it and read it for yourself!

Known to many as a NFL star and most recently a star on the reality show, "Dancing With the Stars," Kurt Warner is more concerned with his faith in God, and his family. Kurt and Brenda Warner have co-written "First Things First," an intimate look into their lives. This book is unique in that it is written by this couple, so it alternates between husband and wife giving the reader each perspective. Kurt and Brenda are very candid and share things about their relationship with each other, with their children and what they have learned in life in general. Even if you are not a Kurt Warner fan, you will enjoy this book!
