This book is dangerously misguiding. It contains a style quiz, temperament quiz, a beauty quotient quiz, and simple beauty tricks. Then it does damage by labeling teens into categorical types. Girls can find out if they are an "Earth Muffin", "Beauty Queen", or a "Cool Chick." They can find out if their style is Fashion-Glamour, Sporty-Fun, Edgy-Retro, Feminine-Girlie, Classic-Casual. To quote directly from the book: "As a result, we don't have to fall into the trap of believing that, say, Jessica Simpson is the hottest thing out there." Meanwhile the author has put this idea into the minds of the young readers of this book. She does try to explain the emptiness of being fashion minded but only after promoting a middle ground of materialism. I do not know how her other books are, but this book may damage a young person's Christian walk by causing them to rethink the idea of needing to be popular and self focused. Perhaps it is a good book for the non-Christian but its focus on taking a "middle path" really is not Biblical. If you want to change a child's perception of themselves, then let them learn about the insignificance of vanity by sponsoring a child in an impoverished country through Compassion. It bothers me that this book is promoted as a "Bible-Study" book when its focus about self image and how we are viewed by others. So what qualifies me to give such a negative review? I have been teaching High School social studies for 15 years. I deal with this age group almost every day. My wife, who brought this book to my attention after my teenage daughter brought it home from a Bible Study, has her undergrad degree in Sociology, and attended the Fashion Institute of Technology. All three of us (my daughter included) looked through the book and our assessment was the same. I am proud my daughter, who will soon be 14, can identify superficiality at such a young age. We teach all our children (3 girls and 1 boy) to view the world as God would view it.

As a woman who's been through it all, God has put a burden in my spirit to help young ladies learn to be Christian young ladies. This study is something that I plan on using to help young ladies understand who they are and find God's purpose for their lives. Hopefully after this study they will become Christian, confident young ladies ready and willing to do God's will and work diligently and faithfully. Thank you for this study.
