Publisher's Weekly

Jeena Gregory is dumped by her boyfriend as this contemporary novel by Ferrell (The Other Daughter) opens. But she can console herself with professional success: a new job as interior designer for a high-end development marks how far she's come from a poor, troubled childhood. Jeena's also got a grandmother who brings out her best. But a major career complication knocks the wheels off the cart of success, and Jeena must make difficult choices. Not much is subtle as this evangelical Christian story predictably unfolds. A number of supporting characters are stereotypical (adorable child, catty friend) rather than convincing; colloquial dialogue rings false; there's even an altar call answered by a character who becomes transformed, a throwback to the days when Christian fiction was highly formulaic. The writing has a tendency to tell instead of show ("a cruel mouth set in a cadaverous, lewd face"; "accentuating his masculine good looks"). Ferrell has ideas, but her execution needs work. (Apr.) I love history and archeology so have enjoyed reading all of Miralee Ferrell's books; but surprisingly there was something about "Finding Jeena" that totally grabbed me. While it is not set in the old west, "Finding Jeena" is hands down, my favorite of Miralee's books! Miralee Ferrell is a very talented writer with an adept ability to weave interesting plots and to pull the reader into the story. I highly recommend this book.

I enjoy Mrs. Ferrell's stories more with each book she writes. This one, Finding Jeena, is a very believable story with a lovable character at the forefront. It will show you that no matter what you have, it can be taken away or lost and that God is your one salvation in all of it. I was sorry to see the book end as I wanted to read on and see what happens to some of the other characters. I can certainly hope there will be another book to follow up on this one.

With each book I read by Christian author Miralee Ferrell, I become a bigger fan! FINDING JEENA was an emotional yet enjoyable read for me. The story pulled me in and I was eager to see what happened next. The messages of hope and salvation were presented very well, and clearly shows what the Lord can do. I highly recommend this book, and must admit I was sorry when I reached the end. Five stars!

I liked this book because, to be honest, it was entirely different from what I had expected. Having read The Other Daughter, I assumed this story would follow up with Jeena and Suzannes relationship, with Suzanne being the changing influence in Jeenas life. As it turned out, Suzanne plays a very minor part in this story. The story takes the reader on a journey with her character from the pinnacle of success to the valley of despair. The people who touch Jeenas life, from her sweet, loving grandmother to the innocent and accepting little girl, Kirsten, all help her down a path that leads to the ultimate goal of renewal and redemption.I found the plot to be well written and a reminder that we dont realize how fortunate we are until we lose the things we think are most important to us. The author conveys the message that once we are stripped of our material possessions, we discover it is relationship with family, friends, and most important, God, that truly defines who we are.Miralee Ferrell is an author who clearly proclaims the message of Gods guidance and desire for redemption for all of His children. She reveals that message through stories that entertain and enlighten her readers.

This was a painful read. Not because it wasn't well-written. And not because it wasn't believable. The story of a successful, bright career woman losing everything was all-too realistic. No matter how well-insulated a person thinks she is from disaster, life is a great equalizer when God reduces the proud and exalts the humble.Jeena Gregory hides the pain of her past abuse in materialism. But when her carefully constructed ivory tower crumbles beneath her, she finds herself in the very places she despises and the ones she feels contempt for become her salvation. The pain of Jeena's journey is bittersweet. As hard as it is to watch, her journey bears lessons that restore deeper and more meaningful things to her than her repo'd beamer and her defaulted condo. Things like mercy, forgiveness, peace. And even a semblance of the family she lost. Her end is better than her beginning, because her life is established on a foundation that won't crumble. This is a timely read, and it will challenge you to examine your own priorities and prejudices.
