Summary from the Publisher
It's easy for Christians to be strong in their faith when they are comfortable - in their church, in a small-group, in their family. But what happens if they are faced with prison, poverty, and pain? Life is more demanding than ever before. Finances are tight, relationships are stressed, and disappointments are common. Why is it so hard to stand up for God during these troubling times?
The letter of 1 Peter was heard by women who knew times like these. This newest addition to the Sue Edwards Inductive Bible Study series digs into 1 Peter and takes a look at the stories of real women - past and present - to teach today's woman how to stand faithful to God regardless of her trials, however severe.
Women today need Bible study to keep balanced, focused, and Christ-centered in their busy worlds. The study questions in this guide allow readers to choose the study level that fits their lifestyle. To provide even more flexibility, readers may pick a different level each week, depending on their schedule. Whatever level of study they choose, women will find fresh solutions and hope to help them overcome obstacles so they can experience victory when discouragement takes hold.

What does this really mean and how are we to incorporate this thinking / living into our daily walk?
For me this means that I die to my will and seek God's will for my life. Prayer is the first step to putting God first. Without having daily time with God to 'plan' my day, I wouldn't know where to start; thus, I would be living in the flesh... not the spirit.
I have to admit... Prayer is not the first thing I think of on a daily basis. Unfortunately, I have slid in my 'quiet time' and Bible study. This study on 1 Peter has put the spark back into my study time and is reminding me how much I love spending time in God's Word.
Another way to persevere through the trials is to share my spiritual gifts with the body of Christ. My spiritual gifts are leadership, exhortation, serving, giving, knowledge, and teaching (strongest first). Ask my family, I have NO problem in the leadership department. I do love to be in charge! The exhortation caught me off-guard as I feel very ill-equipped to witness for Christ. What I have learned is that I witness through my gift of service. Praise the Lord!
Next week is our last week for this study. If you are following along in 1 Peter, what has God been showing you?
Thank you to Kregel Publications for this complimentary copy of 1 Peter to complete my reviews.
Booklover104 Stars Out Of 5Good for women at all stages of lifeJanuary 15, 2012Booklover10Quality: 4Value: 4Meets Expectations: 4I've joined a graduated study on 1 Peter by Sue Edwards. The fact that it was an inductive study made me want to do it because I knew I wouldn't be getting someone's opinion. Instead, I would be studying the Word and letting Scripture interpret Scripture.
This study has 3 different levels so you can choose how deep into 1 Peter you would like to go. I chose to do all of the parts, so I'm doing the level 3. It was in depth, but it honestly didn't take a ton of time.
During Lesson 1, the message that most stood out to me was the Word itself. It was the reminder in 1:3-5 that Jesus Christ has given us a new birth into a living hope THROUGH the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead. Not only that, but it doesn't stop there. We have an inheritance that is kept in heaven for us beyond the reach of change and decay. How amazing! When our focus is on Christ and our inheritance, we won't be swept away by the challenges of today that we face. We will keep our trials and suffering in perspective and we won't lose hope.
Even if you don't do this study, I challenge you to study through 1 Peter with me over the next 9 weeks. However, I'd love for you to join me doing this particular study, as well.
I received this Bible Study free from Kregel Publications in exchange for my honest opinion of this study over the next 9 weeks.
