Product Description

One of the most talented and polarizing athletes of our generation, Michael Vick's rags-to-riches, ridicule-to-redemption story has captured news headlines across the nation. Finally Free chronicles his years growing up in a poverty-stricken neighborhood, his success on the field and his rise to stardom in the NFL. The book also details how a gifted athlete spiraled out of control under the glare of money and fame-and the brokenness that brought his redemption. In his own words, here are the behind-the scenes details of his wrong decisions, his fall from the spotlight, his search for forgiveness, and the unexpected, life-altering grace he received on the way to a celebrated season with the Philadelphia Eagles in 2010.

    Second chances

Wow. This book is about knowing a God who gives second chances. Mr. Vick also shows the human side of life where he perseveres and had to prove himself again and again. There were varied cross sections of people who were standing up for and standing by this man. People's thoughts are split as to whether he got off too lightly or that his punishment should have been more severe. Those personal feelings of readers will always be up and down along the spectrum of life. He got to where he was "too big to get caught," he resorted to lying to all who inquired of his actions which added to the weighty feeling of "making a comeback." The finality of serving time hit hard. This is a good read as an autobiography which seems to present facts rather than build up a false sense of one's self-worth which tends to skew a writers' message. It is hard to make up for 2 years lost out of the prime of life, but read this book to find out how it was done.

This is an unusual book in that one has the impression that Michael is speaking as he is. We come from opposite ends of the spectrum, but our life lessons are so similar. My hope and prayer for him is that he continues to put our gracious and loving LORD first in his life. I'll always be grateful to that agile,

"out of the pocket " kid who introduced me to football fun.
