Finally Free: Fighting for Purity with the Power of Grace
Finally Free Review
âÂÂFinally Free â fighting for purity with the power of graceâ by Heath Lambert challenges the reader to grow in sexual purity. He especially writes for everyone struggling with pornography in his or her lives. At the same time, most of his strategies can be transferred to confront many other sins in our lives.
The foundation for his approach to live a life of purity is based on the saving grace of God. After introducing his starting point, he explores eight main strategies to grow in purity: sorrow, accountability, radical measures, confession, your spouse (or your singleness), humility, gratitude, and a dynamic relationship with Jesus. Lambert fills his chapters with stories of people he has met that have dealt with the challenge of purity in their lives and illustrates his points with real life examples. Each chapter is followed by a few practical points to challenge the reader to put the strategy discussed into practice and to think some more about the points presented.
The book is easy to follow and engaging. The stories make it easy to see how the different strategies work in real life and they help the reader to put them into practice. The author writes in a clear manner and it is easy to understand his points. I really appreciate the positive attitude of the author who is trying to encourage and support his struggling readers. He challenges the reader in an uplifting way to face the obstacles in his or her own life. I would definately reccommend this book.

Finally Free is worth the read
Recently i returned to reading, and to a wonderful resource known as Booksneeze.com, which offers the opportunity to read and review books that have been recently published. I was reading the titles, and so many jumped at me as something i should be taking the time to enjoy. But every now and then a book comes along that seems like it would help to expand both my husband and my understanding of issue, and struggles common to us. While neither of us have struggled with the deep addiction of pornography, we have each witnessed good people fall into this trap, and become entangled. We offer to pray, but there seemed to be more that can be done. We selected Finally Free: Fighting for Purity with the Power of God by Heath Lambert as one such text to help expand our ability to minister to others.
Heath compiled a nicely organized book on how to work through breaking the shackles of the addiction to pornography by hitting the root cause. Like a carpenter or craftsman, Heath begins to add tools that will help, will make a difference. Some of what he wrote was not startling, yet it was good reminder that we are each our brother's keeper, and we should spend effort building into each other, looking out for each other and helping others through times of struggle and temptation by offering substitutions.
The book starts out slow, and i found myself frustrated with the constant repetition of statements, much like the annoying person that keeps asking "did you get that?" after every sentance. But pushing through those first chapters it was well worth the read. I would recommend this primarily for men, however the information is universal, and could easily be applied to other issues we battle in this christian life.

Finally Free is a book on dealing with the sin of pornography. It is written specifically to men who are struggling with an addiction to pornography or to people trying to help men who are. But this book is different from other books that I have read on the topic of pornography. Most books spend a good deal of time describing pornography and how big a problem it is in our culture. However, if you are already struggling with this issue, you donâÂÂt need a history or civics lecture, you need Jesus to help you conquer your sin. And that is where this book begins and ends - with Jesus.
Also, the best part about this book is that it doesnâÂÂt just apply to pornography. It applies to any sin in your life that you are continually struggling with. Perhaps it is gambling or drinking or even something less obvious, like joining in with inappropriate conversations at work. Whatever it is, this book teaches how to deal with any sin issue that you are struggling with by relying on Christ and His saving grace.
Heath Lambert gives clear evidence of Jesusâ love for us and clear scripture backing it up. He shows how God wants us to behave and how we can accomplish it. He also gives very clear practical advice on how to deal with the sin of pornography and gives examples to show how it looks in reality. At the end of each chapter are a list of questions and tasks to help you apply what you learned in that chapter. They are very real and practical questions that make you deal honestly with your sin and level with God on dealing with it.
This book is a terrific resource for someone stuck in the mire of pornography. However, it is also a great book for anyone dealing with a specific sin that is a source of great struggle in his/her life.

Buy this for yourself and your pastor.
Everyone knows someone who is struggling with addiction to pornography. Most would like to help. Many do not know how. Those who are enslaved to their sin despair of ever finding a way out. Heath Lambert has written a book that seeks to break the chains of lust by means of a simple word: grace.
In this book, Dr. Lambert exposes the false belief that those enslaved to pornography often assume: I can overcome this by trying harder. Dr. Lambert shows us that it is by GodâÂÂs grace that we can be freed from pornography and points us to eight specific ways that GodâÂÂs grace is manifest in our lives to help us overcome this sin. The appendix consists of help for those whose loved one is struggling with pornography.
Although this book specifically targets pornography, I believe it could be adapted to counsel those who struggle with any besetting sin. I found this book to be thoroughly biblical in its approach and practical in its application. Dr. Lambert tackles each chapter with a pastorâÂÂs care and a doctorâÂÂs precision. As I read this book, I found my heart moved by the grace that God has given us not only to be saved from the eternal penalty of sin but also the grace He has given us to subdue sin in our mortal bodies as we grow in holiness.
This book needs to be in the library of every pastor. I will recommend this book first and without any hesitation to those who ask. I cannot always say that with books on this topic. Some books focus too much on the sin and end up ensnaring some in renewed temptation. This book seeks to take the focus off of the sin and points the reader to the Saviour. Thank you Dr. Lambert and Zondervan for producing such a valuable resource for those who hurt and for those who want to help. May God be glorified for years to come by this book.
