Another great Masterpiece! Fighting the Flames book was wonderful! Not with just a great story but with great lessons! I've read five atleast if not more of Ballantyne books and find them to be the BEST Christ-centered liture I've ever read! I highly recommend Ballantyne!

My family just finished reading this book, and absolutely loved it! It's a fascinating look at firefighting two centuries ago, presented in a captivating story. It consists of a series of mini plots that intertwine around one another, with a cast of lovable characters and a few that are not-so-lovable.Not only does this book give a picture of firefighting, but the reader gains a look into everyday life in 19th century London, from the dwellings of the richest down to the poorest. Not only that, but Ballantyne makes you love the characters yourself, and inspires you with indignation toward his villains. Throughout every subplot the thread of fire and firefighting is woven, giving the reader an understanding of many of the different aspects of the battle with the flames. Above everything else, the heroism of the firefighters shines brightly as they risk life and limb over and over again to save the lives and property of others. Although it's a serious subject, Ballantyne infuses side-splitting comedy into his characters that overall keeps the feel of the book balanced and even lighthearted, and not heavy and morbid at all. The graphic descriptions referred to in the product description are more descriptions of the fires and the flames and the destruction of property that they bring, and not so much about the personal injuries and deaths caused by fire. I fully recommend this book, and will say frankly that we were all sorry to finish it!
