Exploring God's ways of communicating, forgiving, disciplining, and loving, the authors build a strong case for their conviction that fathering works best when patterned after the best. Their warm, reader-friendly style combines anecdotes from sports, popular culture, and personal experience. The result is a collection of useful, down-to-earth insights into a role that was sent from heaven.
Each chapter includes "Kenn's story" and "Jeff's story"-fascinating and, at times, confessional vignettes fathers of all ages can identify with-along with helpful pointers called "Making It Work," questions for discussion, and suggestions to stimulate father-child dialogue. Fathering Like the Father will inspire any dad or study group interested in a better grip on what the authors label their "premier calling."
His son and coauthor, Jeffrey S. Gangel, holds a D. Min. and is vice president for spiritual formation at Toccoa Falls College in Toccoa Falls, Georgia, where Kenn is scholar-in-residence.
Ron Blue5 Stars Out Of 5December 14, 2002Ron BlueWritten by a father-son team I greatly admire, FATHERING LIKE THE FATHER is the ideal handbook for every dad to reflect on the intriguing qualities demonstrated by our heavenly Father. This volume is thoroughly biblical, refreshingly contemporary, and intensely practical.

Tell us a little about yourself. Kenn Gangel is Distinguished Professor Emeritus at Dallas Seminary and Scholar-in-Residence at Toccoa Falls College (GA). Jeff Gangel is Vice President for Spiritual Formation at Toccoa and pastor of Campus Community Church. Collectively we have over 100 years of fathering experience.
What was your motivation behind this project? To produce a book that is biblical, practical, interesting and inexpensive.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? A new and fresh concept of fathering, its challenges and its joys, and realistic ways of improving fathering behavior.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? After experiencing disappointment with so many other fathering books which seem to be exclusively devotional or sometimes critical, my son and I wrote FATHERING LIKE THE FATHER. Its uniqueness (other than a two generational perspective) is its intense biblical focus framed in a practical "you can do it" format.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: The book has a special structure which allows it to be used for individual reading, small group study, or Sunday school classes. Follow-up questions appear at the end of every chapter. Suggestions for parent-child dialog help dads turn text into life.
