Filled with suggestions, activities, Bible verses, and topics for discussion, this re-usable manual inspires families to look for ways to make the world a better place by making a difference in the lives of others.
In addition to families, these ideas and activities can be easily adapted to use with youth groups, Sunday School classes, home school curriculums, small-groups, and church-wide community projects.
KellyAge: 25-34Gender: female5 Stars Out Of 5January 21, 2013KellyAge: 25-34Gender: female"77 Ways Your Family Can Make A Difference" by Penny A Zeller, is a book filled with awesome ideas that you and your family can do to reach out and help others in need. Some ideas I had never thought of before like, "Design a Bring-It-Back Box", where you go on vacation, or a trip to the zoo, or the park and find things, or take pictures to put in your box. You take the box to someone who isn't able to go on a vacation for whatever reason. Pretty simple right? All of the ideas are good, and ones that wouldn't be hard to do! So if you're looking for ways to help others,I suggest you read this book. It's worth it.
E.C.5 Stars Out Of 5December 9, 2008E.C.Christ is our greatest treasure and joy that must be shared. Zeller in her book "77 Ways Your Family Can Make a Difference" gives young and old fresh ideas and activities to tenderly and passionately share the Gospel. My husband and I have used several of Zeller's ideas to share the Gospel with the residents of the homeless shelter, our local rest homes, and the "lost" in our workplaces, to name a few. This is a book to use and reuse as the ideas are timeless. This book opens up endless possibilities for ways for us to share the Gospel while at the same time keeping our focus on the Lord Jesus Christ. A few of the ideas are ones we have heard of and done before, but a good portion of them are new ideas. An added bonus: each activity includes a section where you can discuss the activity with your grandchildren or children. We have also found the template examples in the back of the book very helpful. As a grandma, this book has been a great asset and I will continue to use it over and over again.
Jennifer Leavitt2 Stars Out Of 5November 20, 2008Jennifer LeavittThis is another one of those items that if I saw it in a store and had a chance to flip through it, I probably wouldn't have purchased it. Mostly because these were almost all ideas that I have either seen or done before. But I suppose that if you are new to serving, this would be a good starter for you, as it seems to be a sort of compilation of "best of" service ideas.
Emily5 Stars Out Of 5September 16, 2008EmilyIn this day and age it is so refreshing to see an excellent writer use their talents for good. I think that most people want to reach out and help others, they just don't always know how. This book gives anyone the tools to go out and make a difference in other peoples lives. Also, it stresses that it doesn't have to cost a lot or be a huge undertaking. It is a great way to teach our children good morals and kindness to others. I would highly recommend this book to anyone who feels the need to do what they can to make a difference.
Becky5 Stars Out Of 5September 4, 2008BeckyNo more excuses or reasons not to serve! As followers of Christ, we are called to serve. Zeller gives us many clever service opportunities the whole family can enjoy together. It will take a long time to exhaust all of the great ideas in this book. 77 Ways Your Family Can Make A Difference is a quick and easy read; great for just about anyone.

Tell us a little about yourself. I am a wife, mother, and Christian author/speaker. I am involved in many community and volunteer projects and am a Woman's Small Group Bible Study Leader, co-founder of our ladies prayer group, and co-founder of the Community Girl's Night Out. My passion is using my writing to teach others about Jesus and His sacrifice for us. I have wanted to become a writer since second grade when I would rewrite Bible stories. My teacher, Mrs. Vernon, encouraged me to write about the Lord.
What was your motivation behind this project? My sister, Becky, suggested I write a book about service projects for families, as there was a lack of such books on the market. After much prayer and with God's guidance, I decided to write this book. It has been God's book from the start. I pray that with all books I have written and will write, that they will glorify God. This is my third book and the fourth is tentatively scheduled for release sometime in 2009.
What do you hope folks will gain from this project? My goal for those who read this book is twofold: I hope they grow closer in their walk with God (or even come to know Him for the first time!) and secondly, that they relish the importance of serving others. It is targeted toward families, Christian schools, homeschoolers, youth groups, and anyone who would like to do their part in making the world a better place. It is a reusable manual that promotes family unity during the "Up for Discussion" section within each suggestion, inspires readers to apply Biblical truth through the Scripture verses contained within each suggestion, and provides cost-effective (and even some free) ways to serve others.
How were you personally impacted by working on this project? Our family has embarked on each of the projects within the book and it was awesome to recall the smiles we have brought to the faces we have served. Each of my young children already have their own ministries. I am so passionate about this book that I found myself unable to type as quickly as the ideas were coming and unable to put it down until I finished writing it.
Who are your influences, sources of inspiration or favorite authors / artists? I owe all the thanks for this book to our Lord Jesus Christ. I also have my supportive husband and children, extended family, first draft editor, Barb, and of course, the staff at Beacon Hill Press to thank.
Anything else you'd like readers / listeners to know: One of my favorite Scripture verses is "Serve wholeheartedly, as if you were serving the Lord and not men," Ephesians 6:7 (NIV). This book provides the platform for just that.
