Allie's newest book helped me take a long, hard look at the effects of surviving a fire. I didn't think about it much beyond replacing things and feeling unsettled. There's a lot more to it then that, and reading Jeannie, Nick, & Chad's stories revealed some of those effects for me. The scene that meant the most to me is the Chinese paper lantern ceremony, with the "safe to come back home" reason for using the lanterns. We've all faced times when all we wanted was a safe place, a home. Allie tackles serious issues, but there's plenty of laugh-out-loud moments included, too. And who can say no to a story with an awesome dog?
