Unforgettable Conclusion to the Trilogy
Tammy Barley has outdone herself. Vivid descriptions and heart-pounding drama bring the Old West to life in this unforgettable conclusion to the Sierra Chronicles. For a book that sweeps away stereotypes and gives you a deeper appreciation of the hardships that the early settlers endured, look no further than FaithâÂÂs Reward. Note: Although this is the last of the trilogy, Barley has skillfully included enough background information that itâÂÂs not necessary to have read the previous two, but treat yourself. Read all three Sierra Chronicles books (LoveâÂÂs Rescue, HopeâÂÂs Promise and FaithâÂÂs Reward).

Northern California in 1865 did not escape the perils of AmericaâÂÂs Civil War. Jake and Jessica Bennett, happily married and expecting their first child, hope the new year will bring better times to their horse ranch. The book opens amid a blizzard as they desperately fight to save the livestock, then turns to all-out efforts to save JakeâÂÂs life.
Hard times continue as the couple battles prejudice against their Paiute friends, financial struggles, and a conspiracy of hate against Southerners. So many adventures are packed into this Western story it doesnâÂÂt leave much time to admire the scenery. Spunky, gun-toting Jess is in the midst of it all, bravely fighting evil and trying to keep her ominous premonitions from coming true.
The charactersâ faith in God sees them through and brings rewards they never even dreamed of. FaithâÂÂs Reward is book three in the Sierra Chronicles, but the novel stands strong on its own surefooted legs.

It finally reveals who killed her family.
Jessica is determined to find out who killed her family, but Jake gets pneumonia. Jessie uses her anger to get Jake well again. Jake finally gives into Jessie so she goes with Seth, and her neighbor. The banker is involved because they have his son. Jessie goes with the banker in exchange for the bankers son. Jessie has a premonition about her death instead of Jakes. It's just a really good book.

Good read
In 1865 Jessica and Jake Bennett struggle to protect each other and their unborn child, but severe weather, men who murdered her parents, and those who stole her inheritance threaten their financial survival and their lives.
Jessica is a fighter, though, and frequently disobeys othersâ advice and goes out on her own to solve problems. Sometimes it gets her into trouble, like the dangerous visit to an Indian village to ask for pneumonia remedies.
Then she dresses up to look like her mother and visits the banker she knows was involved in the plot to murder her parents and take their money. Will her strategy help her get enough evidence to convict the crooks or bring about more deaths?
With some of the things she does, Jessica believes she is protecting her husband, with whom she has a deep loving relationship. At first, she doesnâÂÂt know Jake is committed to stopping a group of soldiers intent on continuing the Civil War, although the war officially ended. This adds a serious complication.
The author knows how to paint a scene, set you down in it, then makes you wonder how Jessica could put herself into so many dangerous situations. But then you know the answer. Jessica needs these criminals to be unmasked and possibly hang. But how can a pregnant woman bring them to justice?
I recommend FaithâÂÂs Reward.
Note: I was provided an advance reader copy by the author.
