Sophie LaCroix, Nancy Rue's new fictional character for tween girls, is a creative dreamer almost certainly destined to become a great film director someday. When some of Sophie's relatives come to town for Thanksgiving, they create a whirlwind of sightseeing. While visiting nearby Jamestown, Sophie sees an archaeological excavation in progress and pictures herself as a female Indiana Jones. This would make a great movie! Fiona, with her mind for facts, is all over it, and Kitty is persuaded to join in.
As they "dig" into their own families' "artifacts"--clothed, of course, in khaki shorts and homemade pith helmets, and keeping watch for snakes, mad elephants, and Corn Pops--Sophie begins to suspect she's adopted. Her vivid imagination takes her so far into her suspicions that she gets mad at God. Her friends so some digging of their own and provide Sophie with proof that she is indeed the natural daughter of Carrie and Todd LaCroix. Some healing occurs with Sophie's parents as they assure her that they would never keep such a secret from her. Sophie learns another of the absolute truths: God want you to love him unconditionally--just as he loves you. Recommended for ages 8 to 12.
Nancy Rue has written over 100 books for girls, is the editor of the Faithgirlz Bible, and is a popular speaker and radio guest with her expertise in tween and teen issues. She and husband Jim have raised a daughter of their own and now live in Tennessee.
