How to think rightly about death.
Life, most of us realize, has many lessons to teach us. But if we are honest, we will admit that we think far less about our death and about what the great transition can teach us. We fear it much and discuss it little. Yet death can give us valuable insight into life. This study will look at death to discover the lessons it contains for the living.
Table of Contents
SCRIPTURE: Psalm 73:24, 116:15; Ecclesiastes 12:1 7; Luke 12:13 21; 2 Corinthians 5:4; Philippians 1:20 23; 1 Thessalonians 4:14
Why are we not thankful or grateful enough for life?
Though human life has dignity, we are not promised that the earthly version will be eternal. What is the practical, contemporary application of that lesson?
Because life is dignified, we prepare for its passing. Read Ecclesiastes 12:1 7 and discuss how the biblical writer illustrates this.
Read the parable of the rich fool and the context for Jesus telling of it in Luke 12:13 21. What is the most obvious point in it?
Sample application questions:
If we honor God in acknowledging that the miracle of life and death is from him, how can we truly make daily choices that have ultimate, lasting value ?
If we really lived by the principle that since we are not guaranteed eternal life on Earth we shouldn't procrastinate in the living of our lives, how might it change our attitudes and our behavior?
