The NIV Application Commentary Series doesn't fool around: it gets right down to business, brining this ancient and powerful word of God into the present so that it can be heard and believed with all the freshness of a new day, with all the immediacy of a friend's embrace.
The NIV Application Commentary Series helps pastors and Bible teachers with one the most neglected elements in good preaching--accurate, useful application. Most commentaries tell you a few things that are helpful and much that you do not need to know. By dealing with the original meaning and contemporary significance of each passage, the NIV Application Commentary Series promises to be helpful all the way around.
James Montgomery Boice
Tenth Presbyterian Church, Philadelphia, PA
This series promises to become an indispensable tool for every pastor and teacher who seeks to make the Bible's timeless message speak to this generation.
Here, at last, is a commentary that makes the proper circuit from the biblical world to main street. The NIV Application Commentary is magnificent gift to the church.
College Church, Wheaton, IL
Here at last is a commentary which is not only academically well informed but which helps the contemporary reader hear God's word and consider its implications; scholarship in the service of the church.
If you want to avoid hanging applicational elephants from interpretive threads, then the NIV Application Commentary Series is for you. This series excels at both original meaning and contemporary significance. I support it one hundred percent.

George K. Brushaber,
President, Bethel College & Seminary
It takes more than interpretation of God's word to change lives, it takes application. Application is the bottom line in teaching and preaching. Without it, we've missed the point of the Bible. The NIV Application Commentary is an outstanding resource for pastors and anyone else who is serious about developing "doers of the word".
The NIV Application Commentary Series shares the same goal that has been the passion of my own ministry--communicating God's word to a contemporary audience so that they feel the full impact of its message.
Willow Creek Community Church
This series dares to go where few scholars have gone before--into the real life world of biblical application faced by pastors and teachers everyday. This is everything a good commentary series should be.
Pastor, Wooddale Church
Some commentaries build walls that isolate you back in the ancient world. The NIV Application Commentary builds bridges that make the Bible come alive with meaning for contemporary life--and the series do so concisely, clearly, and accurately. No wasted words or academic detours--just solid help and practical truth.

parkerj5 Stars Out Of 5Solid CommentaryJune 10, 2013parkerjQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5The NIV Application Commentary (NIVAC) is a unique commentary that seeks to give the reader both the meaning of a passage of Scripture in its original context and a practical application for today's life.
The NIVAC on Ezekiel begins with an introduction chapter that discusses differeïœnt areas of the book. Like most introductions this one covers the message of Ezekiel, the historical background, its authorship, how to interpret and an outline of the book. The bibliography is a nice benefit in helping the reader find more works on Ezekiel.
The Text and Commentary section of this book will divide each passage of Scripture into three sections:
Original Meaning - This is the section where the author will explain the meaning of the text in its original context. This section is fairly easy to read and is excellent for both Pastors and Laymen.
Bridging Context - In this section the author gets us from the original context to the contemporary context by a "bridge". This is usually the shorter section, as its intent is a very simple one: bring the reader from first century times to 21st century times. The comments in this section are very helpful and this is usually is where the author discusses the main points of the chapter as a whole, and how the original context may be "fleshed out" over different time periods.
Contemporary Significance - This is the section that sets this commentary apart from many others, in my opinion. It answers the question that every reader of the Bible asks: "How does this apply to my life?" This section is such a treat for the reader and often times in other volumes of this series I find myself checking to see what is said in this section, even in clear passages that I may not be studying with a need for a commentary. This section is outstanding. As with any commentary that gives a practical application, the reader may not agree with everything that the author puts forth, but there is a lot of quality application for everyone. This section is especially helpful because finding the practical implications in prophecy is difficult.
I would highly recommend this commentary to anyone looking for a solid intermediate commentary.
It is not highly technical but Duguid writes with great clarity and is very readable. This commentary would be a great addition for anyone looking to explore Ezekiel's prophetic book. While so many writers deal with prophecy in a way that is difficult, muddy and nearly impossible to follow this commentary shines for its clarity. Duguid is reformed and this shows through in his writing, but not to the extent that it should turn anyone off. I highly recommend this commentary.
I received a free copy of this commentary from Zondervan in exchange for a review. I was not coerced in any way to write a positive review.
RICHARD HOLTClovis, NMAge: 45-54Gender: male5 Stars Out Of 5The best of its kind!September 6, 2012RICHARD HOLTClovis, NMAge: 45-54Gender: maleQuality: 5Value: 5Meets Expectations: 5This commentary is the best of its kind. The "Original Meaning" section is well written and well researched. The format of the series means that interaction with opposing viewpoints is fairly limited. If that is your interest, see Block, Greenberg, and Allen. However, even if Duguid had included only this section, the commentary still would have been worth the price. But he also excels in both the "Bridging Contexts" and "Contemporary Significance" sections. This means that even a complicated book like Ezekiel can be understood and applied by pastors, students, and laypersons. For those who are interested in both the original meaning of the text and its current application, this is by far the best treatment available.
