“In Extraordinary, John Bevere does a wonderful job of showing what God created us for and how that applies to all areas of our lives. As a professional athlete, I am constantly dealing with the balance of being extraordinary for God, as well as in my career. This book has shown me that there is no separation between our spiritual lives and our everyday lives. God has called us to live extraordinarily, every minute of every day. This book is a must read for those who are looking to live fully immersed in the greatness of Jesus!” — Kurt Warner, NFL quarterback and two-time league MVP

“John Bevere gives a unique peek into our natural human desires for an extraordinary life and provides a frank, candid, and probing discussion of why—when we crave to soar like the mighty eagle—we often accept walking among the chickens as our ultimate fate in life. John’s book shows us how to reach that extraordinary individual that resides in all of us.” — Bishop T. D. Jakes, The Potter’s House

“John Bevere’s penetrating and practical insight into ‘what makes life work’ shines again from these pages. In a day when twittering quick-fixes are sought for life-solutions and sound-bite remarks are dubbed as wisdom, there’s a need for this kind of honesty about the requirements for substance to build a life. John shows that extraordinary living is within every person’s reach, but not on ordinary terms.” — Dr. Jack W. Hayford, chancellor, The King’s Seminary and founding pastor, The Church On The Way

“John Bevere is one of the most passionate people I know, and I believe he has truly grasped the meaning of John 10:10: ‘I came that they may have life, and have it abundantly.’ In Extraordinary he digs into the Word to show what it looks like to please God and use the talents He has given us. John pushes believers to the edge to get them to launch out into the deep. He lives life to the fullest and, through these pages, will inspire you to experience the joy of serving Christ with passion.” — James Robison, LIFE Outreach International

“With both grace and guts, John Bevere challenges us to live a bigger life in God—the life we were always meant to live. In this powerful new book, John shows us how the grace of God can become the springboard to a ‘life less ordinary.’” — Matt Redman, songwriter

“In Extraordinary, my friend John Bevere guides readers on a journey toward discovering a life of more—more understanding, more success, more excitement. And he shows us exactly what it takes to move beyond an ordinary existence and to take hold of an extraordinary life!” — Ed Young, senior pastor, Fellowship Church and author of Outrageous, Contagious Joy

“My favorite thing about my friend John Bevere’s books is they’re all based on exactly what the Word says. They’re loaded with Scripture, challenging you to grow deeper in your walk with Jesus, and Extraordinary is no different. John walks through the Bible and opens your eyes to God’s passion of getting you away from ‘the ordinary’ and into ‘the extraordinary.’ Prepare to be challenged and changed as you read.” — Aaron Baddeley, PGA golfer, Scottsdale, AZ

“Teens and adults today spend too much time aimlessly looking for value or something worth working for. In this book John Bevere challenges us all with the simple answer to questions about meaning in life. Only those ready to make changes need apply!” — Ron Luce, president and founder, Teen Mania Ministries

“This is a one-of-a-kind hero message! In his unprecedented approach, John Bevere has delivered a book that will unlock the extraordinary within you. I pray your heart is open and ready to receive Extraordinary.” - Darlene Zschech, worship leader

“For years I have challenged those around me to be extraordinary by doing a little extra above the ordinary. In Extraordinary, John Bevere examines and inspires the heart to realize God has called us all to abundant life. Each of us knows we are meant for more. This book will help you leave mediocrity behind and enjoy the great adventures God has for you.” — Tommy Barnett, pastor, Phoenix First Assembly and Dream Centers: Phoenix, Los Angeles, New York

“John Bevere shows from the Word that everyone who wants it can live a life with impact. This book hits hard with truth. No more boring, watered-down, weak spiritual life for the body of Christ. Let’s do it! We can all release God’s power and do the extraordinary!” — Shaun Alexander, former NFL MVP

“Extraordinary points us to that spot on the horizon—the place that could be ours to live. In his book, John gives us a glimpse of what God has for us in that place so that we will chase after it and allow God’s Spirit to take us there. — Chris Tomlin, lead worshiper, Passion City Church, Atlanta, and sixstepsrecords’ recording artist

A good look at faith and grace and how they should be lived out in our life - very full of biblical quotations to support the points made. Also has short personal questions at the end of each chapter to help you relate it to your life which is good. Can be a bit of a dry read at times, quite long and not much in the way of personal anecdotes, which would have been nice, but still very good.

I read the kindle version and formating wasn't great for things like new chapters which was a shame.

For this book John should have heeded some wise words from my first Camp Director. He said_

"At this camp we do two things. We have fun and we make disciples. If you mess up, then mess up on making disciples. Have fun. At least then the campers will come back next year and someone else can introduce them to Christ. If you try to make disciples at camp and have no fun, you won't succeed at either."

    The Good:

Extraordinary focuses on making disciples. There is some great truth hidden in here. His emphasis on God's grace giving us the power to live life differently was well done. I'll steal some for future sermons myself - for sure.

    The Bad:

John seems to be a bit hyper-dispensational, seeing Old Testament believers as unable to live the life God now calls us to live. He sees Jesus as raising the bar in the New Testament when He calls us to live a "perfect/holy" life. Maybe I'm misunderstanding what John was teaching, but it seems to me Jesus was not raising the bar, but clarifying where the bar was set. The Pharisees moved it, Christ re-set it.

    The Ugly:

The book read to me like a collection of poorly organized sermons. With better editing, maybe 25% shorter, this could have been a fun, exciting encouragement of dying to self and allowing Christ to live through you. Instead it was dull. I kept putting it down, waiting a week, telling myself it couldn't be that bad, trying again, putting it down_ There were always paragraphs to mark, good content hidden in the chapters, but getting there was work. John is a better author than this - don't let this sour you on his other books.

I received this book free from Multnomah Books for review. I was not required to write a positive review. The opinions I have expressed are my own. DanielCooley.com

It is safe to say that to live extraordinarily is the heart's desire of most people, one way or another. In his book, Extraordinary, John Bevere attempts to trace out an outline to live by for the fellow believer. The chapters are broken up as a means to cumulatively 'build' upon prior chapters, and is not meant to be read out of order. From start to finish, this book pokes and prods at the reader's heart, fishing out any improper doctrine, or personal dysfunction that can damage a person's spirituality and ability to live fully.

I cannot say that I enjoyed reading this book. With that said, it was well-written and doctrinely-sound, and surely could be very encouraging to the right person at the right time in their life. The reason I dragged through this read was because it seemed to hit points that seemed a bit trite to someone with a solid faith in place. It seems to me that in order to write a book that is worth reading, you should at least come up with an angle that is new, peculiar, and definitely not done before. For example, "God did not set you free from sin so that you could continue to sin and be forgiven--without reaping its consequences. " What Christian hasn't heard that sermon at least thrice? Give me a new angle on this!

Don't let my bland experience deter you from this book, however. Nor should you think that it is meant solely for new believers. A word in season is very powerful, and if you feel compelled to read it, it may just end up being be the perspective you needed to read from to help get your life going in the right direction.

I received this book for free from WaterBrook Multnomah Publishing Group for this review.

This book is really helping me to value who I am as a person through the eyes of Christ. To know that I matter and that I am taken so seriously by Him, insteals in me the courage to persue everyday living, to be a better me for Him, for my family, and for myself, because after all I am indeed an extraordinary being. Thank you John for putting some things in perspective for me and my ladies prayer group.
