Though older English is used, it is very solid and understandable. A great exposition and very helpful.

I am a fan of JC Ryle but am a little disappointed with this work. Matthew and Mark in one volume, so he skips quite a lot especially some of the more difficult passages. But he does focus on important issues dealing with Christian living and he nowhere claims that this work is exhaustive. Used as a devotional for daily reading it's a great way to revise the gospels.Recommended.

Good, solid, conservative commentary. You have to pick the meat from the bones to spit out any Calvinism you encounter but at least you won't find any Arminianism.

Great books. very well written and teaches me something new every time I sit down to read it. Words are often printed with too much ink thus smudging, and then not enough to make it hard to read a word but altogether a great addition to my library. I also like that it is in the KJV

The writings of J. C. Ryle will appeal to the very learned Pastor, Bible Students, or the lay person. The method in which he expounds on the scriptures is warm and thoughful, and easy for all to understand, feel, and to learn from. This set is a must for anyone studying the Godpels. However, bringing them at this affordable price, something has been lost in the integrity of printing, and binding. My set that I purchased brand new right here, is at the very best, hard to read. Some pages are very ledgable, with dark balanced ink, but some pages are so lightly inked that they are exteremely hard to see and read. There ar even pages that the the typeset is missing the chareacter edges. It is a very beautiful set of books, but given the material they are made with, and the cheapness of the paper they are printed on, I don't expect them to last a long time in a heavy use environment.

Although I've had them only a few days, I have found them useful on several occasions.
