This is a very well written commentary that is scholarly, but not "stuffy." I use the NIV more than other translations, so it is a pleasure to have a thorough commentary based on the NIV that will acknowledge other translations as well. I regularly use up to twelve commentaries and find myself reaching for this one often. This is an excellent value at this price.

i bought this collection a couple of weeks ago and already know it will be a great benefit to my ministry. the excellent array of introductory articles will deepen anyone's understanding of the faith and tremendous work that has gone into researching god's word. the scripture commentaries are well-balanced, noting different points of view and clearly stating the author's position. i especially appreciate that the commentator's are unapologetic about stating their faith. sometimes commentators get so caught up in text criticism, social criticism, objectivity, etc., that one is left wondering whether or not they believe the christian message. this set is an excellent addition to my library. it is a good starting place, but i would not suggest that it be your only source. as for the price. well, that speaks for itself. buy it, dive in and continue your feast on god's word.

Absolutely love it. When I bought the set, I didn't notice that it was both the Old and New Testaments. I thought I was just buying the New Testament set. When I opened the box, I was pleasantly surprised!
The set features conservative authorship that sticks very closely to the meaning found in solid exegesis. This set in particular is somewhat a bridge edition between the regular (more technical) set and the abridged edition. For pastors who choose to do their own word study, this edition fits nicely into their library. One of the negatives that I see is that this volume doesn't go as in depth as I would prefer when it comes to historical context (I recently studied 2 Kings 1, and the commentary doesn't explain the background regarding the lattice in the upper room). While this is a very particular thing that you would probably get in another volume, the expositors complete set explains the text in a way that is understandable and faithful to the text.

Teh price is outstanding. The quality of the binding is wonderful (especially compared to my original set from 16 years ago!) The depth of the material is adequate to invite further digging into the scripture. The NIV is not my favorite, but one can easily transfer the information to whatever translation you so choose. Not a homiletic commentary - this one is for information - you can develop your own sermon / lesson strategies.

I received this set the other day and I'm pleased with it so far. I haven't had it long enough to be able to give and indepth review but it seems to be a wonderful addition to my research material. At the price, if you are on the fence about buying it, I recommend getting it.
